Patient Flow – Myocardial Perfusion Scan (MPI)

Appointment for a Myocardial Perfusion Scan (MPI) 99mTc Sestamibi Scan | Nuclear Stress Test | Thallium Scan can be obtained either by calling on mentioned numbers or personal visit to the facility.

Most Important Instructions

  • Fasting required for atleast 4 hours.
  • Certain medications required to be stopped prior to the test such as :
    • Beta Blocker: 24-48 hours prior to the test
    • Calcium Channel Blockers: 12-24 hours prior to the test
    • Nitrates: 6-12 hours prior to the test
  • No medications are to be taken on the day of test
  • Kindly bring all your clinical records, which include old investigation reports & treatment prescriptions.
  • Bring / wear comfortable walking shoes, as part of the test involves walking on the treadmill. Wear loose clothes preferably with no metal.
  • In case you are unable to walk and has been advised pharmacological stress test using adenosine / dobutamine then additionally you will need to stop tea, coffee and chocolate intake for 24 hours prior to the test.

On Day of Appointment at the Reception

  • The scan referral letter / prescription is checked & verified
  • The registration process is carried-out
  • Duration: 15-20mins

Clinical History

  • Doctor takes history of illness and various medication / treatment received for the same
  • Your old medical records are evaluated to plan any customisation in the test procedure & the extent of the physical stress on treadmill or pharmacological to be given
  • Please notify the staff if you are pregnant or lactating. Pregnancy is a complete contraindication to the test
  • Pregnancy (LMP) is asked from female patient in reproductive age group. If any doubt of pregnancy UPT is done.
  • Informed patient declaration and consent is obtained
  • Duration: 15-20mins

Patient Preparation

  • Patient may be asked to change over to Centre clothing (if necessary) & removing any metallic object
  • Height and weight is recorded on file
  • I.V. cannulation is done for administering I.V. medication
  • Duration: 10-15mins
  • Instructions specific to the test will be explained



Payment from all modes as; cash / credit card / debit card are acceptable.

Injection and Post Injection

  • At peak stress level (determined by cardiac symptoms, individual capacity & other parameters) the first dose of radioactive medicine is administered I.V.
  • You will be asked to have some short fatty meal, which encourage better clearance of systemic medicine to get better images of heart


  • Your scanning is performed roughly between 45 mins – 75 mins after the exercise / rest injection (second dose)
  • Prior to the commencement of scanning procedure, you are asked to empty urinary bladder
  • Each scanning normally takes approximately 15-25 minutes depending on the general condition of the patient
  • Normally 1-2 hours gap is maintained between two injections stress and rest to get optimal cardiac images
  • You are normally asked to wait after images for 10-15 minutes to verify technical quality of acquired images
  • Total Duration: 3.5-4 hours

Report Collection

  • Report can be collected on the next working day between 12 to 5pm
  • Email facility for written reports and coloured images are available
  • Extra copies of report set (may be required for reimbursements/TPA) is available on chargeable basis
