Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH)

330

LDH is present in all cells of the body with the highest concentrations in the liver, heart, muscle, kidney, lung & erythrocytes. This assay is useful for investigating a variety of diseases involving these organs. It is also used to monitor changes in tumour burden after chemotherapy. As the LDH elevations in cancer are very erratic, they should not be used for the diagnosis of cancer.
