Test information: 3 Days abstinence required

Reporting: Within 6 hours*

  • Sexual abstinence for 2–7 days is recommended before a Routine/Basic Semen Examination to ensure accurate results.
  • The semen sample should be collected by masturbation directly into a clean, sterile, wide-mouthed container provided by the laboratory. Avoid using condoms unless a special semen collection condom has been provided.
  • Wash your hands and genital area with clean water and dry thoroughly before collecting the sample to reduce the risk of contamination.
  • Ensure that the entire semen sample is collected, especially the first portion, as it contains the highest concentration of sperm.
  • If the sample is collected at home, keep it at body temperature (20–37°C) and deliver it to the laboratory within 30–60 minutes of collection.
  • Inform the laboratory if any portion of the sample was lost during collection, as this may affect the test results.
  • Avoid alcohol, smoking, recreational drugs, and excessive heat exposure (such as hot tubs or saunas) for at least 24–48 hours before the test, if possible.
  • Inform your doctor about any medications, recent fever, illness, or previous fertility treatments that may influence the results.
  • Bring your doctor's prescription and any previous semen analysis or fertility-related reports, if available.
  • Arrive at the diagnostic centre 10–15 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
