Routine/Basic Stool Examination is a simple, safe, and non-invasive laboratory test used to evaluate the health of the digestive system and detect gastrointestinal disorders.
The patient is required to provide a fresh stool sample in a sterile collection container, following the laboratory's collection guidelines.
Once received, the sample is examined in the laboratory for its physical characteristics, including colour, consistency, and appearance.
The sample then undergoes chemical analysis to detect abnormalities such as occult (hidden) blood, abnormal pH, and other biochemical changes.
A detailed microscopic examination is performed to identify pus cells, red blood cells, mucus, parasites, ova (worm eggs), cysts, protozoa, yeast cells, fat globules, undigested food particles, and other abnormal findings.
The examination helps diagnose intestinal infections, parasitic infestations, gastrointestinal bleeding, inflammatory bowel conditions, malabsorption disorders, and other digestive system abnormalities.
The procedure involves no injections, anaesthesia, or invasive techniques, making it completely painless and safe.
The findings are reviewed by experienced laboratory professionals and qualified pathologists to ensure accurate diagnosis and reliable reporting.
The test report is generally available within 24 hours.
