A total IgE test measures the amount of IgE antibodies in the blood and is the sum of all the forms of IgE. A total IgE test does not show which specific forms of IgE are present. Total IgE testing is used to help diagnose some health conditions including certain types of infections and immune disorders. It may also be used to guide treatment in people who have asthma tied to allergies.
