CEMRI Whole Abdomen offers detailed imaging of abdominal organs and adjacent soft tissues, allowing for the diagnosis of different abnormalities, masses, inflammation, infections, and more.
About CEMRI Whole Abdomen
Whole Abdomen is a special MRI scan using contrast, which takes detailed images of the abdomen. Capable of analyzing several soft-tissue structures and several organs in a single exam. The scan may be ordered to follow up on an abnormal scan, if there is still some abdominal pain after other imaging tests, if the person has a lesion they think may have been found in their stomach or abdomen, or if an abnormality was found in a previous imaging test.
What is CEMRI Whole Abdomen?
The full name of CEMRI Whole Abdomen is Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Whole Abdomen. It produces detailed pictures of the abdominal organs and their surroundings, based upon a strong magnetic field and radio waves. A contrast agent is given during the procedure to highlight certain tissues and abnormalities, so the radiologist can get a better idea of the extent, size, and location of the tissues and abnormalities and determine their characteristics.
Common Reasons for CEMRI Whole Abdomen
Persistent or unexplained abdominal pain
Evaluation of abdominal masses or lesions
Further assessment of abnormalities detected on ultrasound or CT
Evaluation of liver, pancreas, kidney, or spleen abnormalities
Suspected infection or inflammation
Evaluation of cysts and other fluid-filled lesions
Assessment of abdominal and retroperitoneal structures
Follow-up of known tumours or other lesions
Evaluation of post-surgical or post-treatment changes
Further characterization of an unclear abdominal abnormality
Conditions Evaluated
Liver Abnormalities
CEMRI can provide a detailed assessment of the liver and help evaluate focal lesions, cysts, inflammation, vascular abnormalities, and other structural changes.
Pancreatic Abnormalities
The examination can help evaluate the pancreas for masses, cystic lesions, inflammation, and other abnormalities.
Kidney and Adrenal Abnormalities
MRI provides detailed imaging of the kidneys and adrenal glands and can assist in evaluating masses, cysts, structural abnormalities, and other lesions.
Spleen Abnormalities
The scan can help assess the spleen for focal lesions, enlargement, cysts, and other abnormalities.
Abdominal Masses and Lesions
Contrast enhancement can help characterize masses and lesions by providing information about their size, location, extent, and enhancement pattern.
Infection and Inflammation
CEMRI may assist in evaluating inflammatory changes, fluid collections, and certain infections involving abdominal organs and surrounding tissues.
Abdominal and Retroperitoneal Structures
The examination can provide detailed visualization of soft tissues and structures within the abdomen and retroperitoneum.
Tumours and Follow-Up
CEMRI can assist in evaluating suspected or known tumours and may be used for treatment planning and follow-up assessment.
Who Should Consider This MRI?
Patients with persistent abdominal symptoms or unexplained abnormalities, suspected masses or lesions, or when conditions require complete and detailed contrast-enhanced evaluation of abdominal organs may be evaluated by CEMRI Whole Abdomen. It can also be used if an abnormality is seen previously on some sort of imaging and requires further study or follow-up.
Benefits of CEMRI Whole Abdomen
