Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is a diagnostics centre, NABL and NABH accredited diagnostics centre offering MRI Angiography (Brain) examination. Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) is a special type of imaging procedure that may be used to try to diagnose problems in the blood vessels that deliver blood to the brain. It can help your doctor to know how well the blood is flowing around the body and if there are any problems with the blood vessels such as narrowing, blockage, an aneurysm, or other blood vessel disease.
About MRI Angiography (Brain)
MRI Angiography (Brain) is a type of non-invasive scan that is used to create a picture of arteries and blood vessels within the brain. It is based on magnetic fields and radio waves that make pictures of cerebral blood vessels without any so-called 'radioactive radiation'.
The test can be used to evaluate the health of blood vessels and determine if there have been any changes that can impact blood flow to the brain. It is sometimes ordered to find out if there will be problems with blood vessels, neurologic signs and symptoms that cannot be explained by the physical exam, or circulation problems to the brain. A contrast might be used with or without during the examination as clinically indicated.
What is MRI Angiography (Brain)?
Brain MRA or MRI Angiography is one of the most advanced imaging methods that specializes in imaging the brain's blood vessels. It can help radiologists assess the blood flow, size, and shape of the larger cerebral arteries.
The patient lies on the MRI table, which is then moved into the scanner during the examination. The patient should lie still while pictures are taken. Special sequences of pictures are taken to see the blood vessels. However, in many cases, a type of brain Magnetic Resonance Angiogram called Time-of-Flight (TOF) can be used without providing it with contrast material. If there is a need for extra information about the vessels, contrast may be needed.
Common Reasons for MRI Angiography (Brain)
Suspected Brain Aneurysm: To evaluate abnormal bulging or widening of a blood vessel.
Stroke Evaluation: Assessment of blood vessels when a doctor suspects reduced blood flow or vascular blockage.
Blood Vessel Narrowing: Investigation of possible narrowing in the arteries supplying the brain.
Persistent Headaches: Evaluation when a vascular cause is suspected based on clinical findings.
Neurological Symptoms: Investigation of selected symptoms such as dizziness, visual disturbances, or weakness when a vascular abnormality is suspected.
Vascular Malformations: Assessment of abnormal connections or structures involving cerebral blood vessels.
Follow-up Evaluation: Monitoring of previously identified vascular abnormalities when advised by a specialist.
Why Choose Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy?
Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is an advanced diagnostic centre that provides services under one roof for molecular diagnostics, radiology, nuclear medicine, and pathology. Our radiology emphasis is on conforming to everyday principles of comfort for the patient, appropriate imaging techniques, careful examination during the session, and detailed reporting of the session. We strive to deliver reliable diagnostics with quality and patient-centric care.
Test information: Fasting is generally not required for non-contrast Brain MRA. If contrast is required, follow the preparation instructions provided by the centre.
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
Fasting is generally not required for a non-contrast MRI Angiography (Brain) scan.
If contrast is planned, follow the fasting and preparation instructions provided by the diagnostic centre.
Inform the radiology team if you have a pacemaker, metallic implants, surgical clips, or any implanted medical device.
Tell the staff if you have kidney problems, a history of contrast reactions, or any known allergies, especially if contrast may be used.
Inform the radiology team if you are pregnant or suspect you may be pregnant.
Carry your doctor's prescription, previous MRI or CT scans, and relevant medical records.
Remove jewellery, watches, hairpins, hearing aids, and other metallic objects before entering the MRI room.
Wear comfortable clothing without metal fasteners or accessories.
Inform the staff if you experience claustrophobia or have difficulty remaining still during the scan.
Follow the radiology team's instructions and remain still while images are being captured.
The patient is registered, and the MRI safety questionnaire is completed.
The radiology team reviews the patient's medical history, previous reports, and details of any implants or medical devices.
The patient removes all metallic objects and changes into suitable clothing if required.
The patient lies on the MRI table, and the head is positioned appropriately.
The table moves into the MRI scanner, where specialised sequences are used to capture images of the brain's blood vessels.
Time-of-Flight (TOF) sequences may be used to examine blood vessels without contrast material.
If clinically required, contrast material may be administered through an intravenous line after the necessary safety checks.
Additional images may be captured following contrast administration, if required.
The patient must remain still during image acquisition to ensure clear images.
The radiologist reviews the images to assess the cerebral blood vessels for narrowing, blockage, aneurysms, or other vascular abnormalities.
The report is prepared and provided within 24 hours, as per the stated reporting schedule.
