Get your cardiac MRI at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL- & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre. A cardiac MRI is a non-invasive imaging examination that provides detailed information about the heart's structure, function, cardiac chambers, heart muscle, and surrounding structures. The examination is performed using advanced MRI technology under the supervision of experienced radiologists and imaging specialists.
About MRI CARDIAC
Cardiac MRI is an advanced and specialized examination that evaluates the heart and its function. In this examination, detailed information about the heart muscle, chambers, valves, blood flow, and surrounding cardiovascular structures. An MRI examination does not involve ionizing radiation; strong magnetic fields and radio waves are used to create detailed images.
What is MRI CARDIAC?
Cardiac MRI produces detailed images of the heart using specialized MRI sequences synchronized with the heartbeat. Depending on the clinical requirement, the examination may include assessment of cardiac structure, function, tissue characteristics, and blood flow. Contrast may be used when specifically indicated by the referring doctor.
Common Reasons for MRI CARDIAC
Evaluation of heart muscle abnormalities
Assessment of cardiac structure and function
Evaluation of suspected cardiomyopathy
Assessment of congenital heart abnormalities
Evaluation of inflammation involving the heart
Assessment of cardiac masses or lesions
Evaluation of selected heart and vascular conditions
Further characterization of findings from other cardiac imaging
Conditions Evaluated
Cardiomyopathy
Cardiac MRI can help assess the structure and tissue characteristics of the heart muscle in suspected cardiomyopathy.
Myocardial Inflammation
MRI can help evaluate selected inflammatory changes involving the heart muscle.
Congenital Heart Abnormalities
The examination can provide detailed anatomical and functional information in selected congenital heart conditions.
Cardiac Masses
Cardiac MRI can help characterize certain masses or lesions involving the heart and surrounding structures.
Heart Muscle Abnormalities
MRI provides detailed assessment of cardiac muscle structure, function, and tissue characteristics.
Pericardial Abnormalities
The examination can help evaluate selected abnormalities involving the pericardium and surrounding cardiac structures.
Who Should Consider This Scan?
Your doctor may recommend an MRI Cardiac if you have:
Suspected heart muscle disease
Abnormal findings on echocardiography or other cardiac imaging
Suspected inflammatory changes involving the heart
A suspected cardiac mass or lesion
A need for detailed assessment of cardiac structure and function

Test information: Fasting: 4–6 hours
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
Fast for 4–6 hours before the examination, unless otherwise advised by your doctor or imaging centre.
Essential medicines may generally be taken with a small amount of water unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Inform the MRI team about any pacemaker, implanted cardiac device, metal implant, aneurysm clip, cochlear implant, or other implanted medical device.
Inform the team about any previous heart surgery, cardiac procedure, or implanted device.
Inform the MRI team about any previous reaction to MRI contrast agents if contrast has been advised.
Inform the team if you have kidney disease, as kidney function may need to be assessed before contrast administration when clinically appropriate.
Inform the team if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
Remove jewellery, watches, chains, and other metal objects before entering the MRI room.
Wear comfortable clothing without metal components where possible.
Bring previous ECG, echocardiography, CT, MRI, angiography reports, cardiac records, and relevant medical documents if available.
Inform the team if you have difficulty lying flat, breathing difficulties, or problems holding your breath.
Follow any additional instructions provided by the radiologist or imaging centre.
The patient's clinical history, symptoms, previous cardiac investigations, and relevant medical records are reviewed before the examination.
MRI safety screening is performed to identify any pacemakers, implanted cardiac devices, metallic implants, or other devices that may affect MRI safety.
The patient is positioned comfortably on the MRI table, with the appropriate cardiac coil placed over the chest.
ECG electrodes are attached to synchronize image acquisition with the patient's heartbeat.
Multiple specialized MRI sequences are obtained to assess cardiac chambers, heart muscle, valves, pericardium, and surrounding cardiovascular structures.
Functional sequences are performed to assess cardiac motion and ventricular function.
Additional sequences may be performed to evaluate myocardial tissue characteristics, blood flow, or other structures according to the clinical requirement.
An intravenous line may be placed when contrast administration is specifically indicated.
If contrast is used, it is administered intravenously followed by additional MRI sequences.
The patient may be asked to hold their breath for short periods during selected sequences to reduce motion and improve image quality.
MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves and does not involve ionizing radiation.
After the examination, the acquired images are reviewed and interpreted by an experienced radiologist or cardiac imaging specialist.
Reporting: Within 24 hours.
