Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy are NABL and NABH certified for the provision of MRI Cervical Spine Flexion and Extension. The MRI Cervical Spine Flexion and Extension is a specialist MRI scan of the cervical spine (neck). The scan can identify any movement of the spinal structures in the neck. This helps doctors to identify instability, misalignment, and any changes that may affect the spinal cord or surrounding nerves.
An advanced imaging investigation to measure the degree of movement in your neck in both flexion (forward) and extension (backward). The scan will help identify movement within the cervical vertebrae and surrounding structures. If a doctor suspects there may be abnormal movement between your cervical vertebrae, instability of the spine, and pressure on nerves and the spinal cord, which may move depending on neck positioning, then this scan may be recommended. This will provide additional information to a standard MRI scan performed in a neutral position.
MRI Cervical Spine Flexion and Extension uses powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images of the neck (cervical spine) in a variety of positions. This helps to assess the spine, intervertebral discs, spinal canal, spinal cord, and surrounding soft tissues.
The images are taken with the neck in a neutral position and then in a flexed and extended position if required by the imaging protocol. The patient may be asked to move their neck up and down with guidance from the radiology team. The images will then be compared by the Radiologist to see if there are any changes in spinal alignment, disc spaces and other structures.
The examination helps assess abnormal movement or changes in alignment between the cervical vertebrae during flexion and extension.
MRI helps evaluate disc bulges, herniation, and degenerative changes that may affect nearby nerves or the spinal cord.
The examination may help identify narrowing of the spinal canal and assess whether its appearance changes with neck positioning.
MRI provides detailed images of the structures surrounding the cervical nerves and may help identify abnormalities associated with nerve compression.
The examination helps assess age-related degenerative changes in the cervical vertebrae, discs, and surrounding structures.
MRI provides detailed visualisation of the spinal cord and helps evaluate possible compression or other structural abnormalities.
Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is an advanced diagnostic centre, having all three specialties of Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Pathology under the same roof. Comfort, appropriate imaging techniques, careful examination, and detailed reporting are all emphasized in our radiology services. We want to ensure the provision of reliable diagnostic assistance with a quality focus and patient-centred service.
Make an appointment to get an MRI Cervical Spine Flexion and Extension if you have been told to get it! Bring the doctor's prescription, old MRI or X-ray reports, and medical records. Make the radiology department aware if there have been any prior surgeries on your neck, or the presence of any metallic objects or pacemakers. Neck movements will be made only as directed by the radiology team, and no more than to the point of discomfort or pain.
Test information: Fasting is generally not required. Inform the radiology team about any metallic implants or medical devices before the examination.
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
