Schedule your MRI Enterography at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL- and NABH- accredited diagnostic center. In a non-invasive and advanced imaging examination like MRI Enterography, detailed views of the small intestine and surrounding abdominal structures are obtained. It can help in assessing bowel wall abnormalities, inflammation, structures, fistulas, and other gastrointestinal conditions. At our center, advanced MRI technology is used, and the scan is performed by an expert radiologist.
About MRI ENTEROGRAPHY
MRI Enterography is a specialized MRI examination designed to evaluate the small bowel and surrounding abdominal structures. It provides detailed images of the bowel wall and soft tissues without using ionizing radiation. It is particularly useful when repeated or detailed evaluation of the small intestine is required.
What is MRI ENTEROGRAPHY?
In MRI Enterography, magnetic fields and radio waves are used to obtain clear images of the small intestine. In this examination, a contrast agent may be used for better imaging when clinically indicated to evaluate the bowel wall and surrounding tissue abnormalities. It can assess the bowel wall, intestinal lumen, surrounding mesentery, and selected abdominal structures.
Common Reasons for MRI ENTEROGRAPHY
Evaluation of suspected or known Crohn's disease
Assessment of small bowel inflammation
Evaluation of bowel wall thickening
Assessment of intestinal strictures or narrowing
Evaluation of fistulas and abscesses
Assessment of suspected small bowel lesions
Evaluation of unexplained abdominal symptoms
Monitoring of known inflammatory bowel disease
Conditions Evaluated
Crohn's Disease
MRI Enterography can help assess bowel inflammation and complications associated with Crohn's disease.
Small Bowel Inflammation
The examination can evaluate inflammatory changes involving the small intestine and surrounding tissues.
Bowel Strictures
MRI can help identify areas of narrowing or stricturing within the small bowel.
Fistulas and Abscesses
The examination can help evaluate selected fistulas, collections, and other complications associated with bowel disease.
Small Bowel Lesions
MRI can assist in evaluating selected masses, lesions, or abnormal bowel wall changes.
Other Intestinal Abnormalities
MRI Enterography can provide detailed assessment of selected structural and inflammatory abnormalities of the small intestine.
Who Should Consider This Scan?
Your doctor may recommend an MRI Enterography if you have:
Suspected or known inflammatory bowel disease
Persistent abdominal pain or gastrointestinal symptoms
Suspected small bowel inflammation
Suspected bowel stricture or narrowing
Suspected fistula or abscess
Abnormal findings on previous gastrointestinal imaging
A need for follow-up of known small bowel disease
Benefits of MRI ENTEROGRAPHY

Test information: Fasting: 4–6 hours
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
Fast for 4–6 hours before the examination, unless otherwise advised by your doctor or imaging centre.
Follow any specific instructions provided regarding oral fluid or bowel preparation before the examination, as MRI Enterography may require preparation to adequately visualize the small bowel.
Essential medicines may usually be taken with a small amount of water unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Inform the radiology team about any pacemaker, implanted device, aneurysm clip, cochlear implant, metal fragment, or other metallic implant.
Inform the team about any previous reaction to MRI contrast agents if contrast administration is planned.
Inform your doctor or radiology team if you have kidney disease or reduced kidney function, as additional assessment may be required before contrast administration.
Inform the team if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.
Inform the radiology team about any previous abdominal surgery, bowel procedure, known inflammatory bowel disease, or other gastrointestinal condition.
Remove jewelry, watches, belts, and other metallic objects before the examination.
Wear comfortable clothing without metal components where possible.
Bring previous MRI, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, colonoscopy, or other relevant gastrointestinal reports for comparison.
Follow any additional preparation instructions provided by the radiology team according to the examination protocol.
The radiology team reviews your clinical history, symptoms, previous gastrointestinal investigations, and relevant medical records.
MRI safety screening is performed to check for implants, metallic objects, and other factors that may affect the examination.
You may be asked to consume an appropriate oral preparation or contrast solution according to the centre's MRI Enterography protocol to help distend the small bowel.
You are positioned comfortably on the MRI table, usually lying on your back.
A dedicated abdominal coil is positioned appropriately over the abdomen.
The MRI scanner acquires detailed images of the small intestine, bowel wall, intestinal lumen, mesentery, and surrounding abdominal structures.
An intravenous line may be placed, and contrast or other medication may be administered when clinically indicated and according to the examination protocol.
Additional MRI sequences are obtained to evaluate bowel wall changes, inflammation, strictures, fistulas, collections, and other relevant abnormalities.
You will be asked to remain still and may receive breathing instructions during certain image acquisitions.
The examination does not use ionizing radiation.
After image acquisition, the images are reviewed by an experienced radiologist for assessment of the small bowel and surrounding structures.
Reporting is provided within 24 hours.
