To avail the latest and most advanced services under the Radiology and Imaging section, visit Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, which is an NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre. MRI Forearm takes a detailed image of the bones, muscles, tendons, nerves, blood vessels, and soft tissue that are found in the forearm, and can be used to make a diagnosis when the forearm is painful, injured, swollen, or abnormal.

About MRI Forearm

MRI Forearm is a specific kind of MRI scan that can assist you in evaluating the forearm bones, the muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues around the forearm. It generates fine images that could be used to analyze normal and abnormal bone and soft tissue formations. The scan may be requested if pain persists, a suspected injury, pain is associated with increased swelling, or if there are symptoms that do not fit the diagnosis, or if the injury was diagnosed with ultrasound or X-ray before.

What is MRI Forearm?

A detailed image of the forearm is formed using a powerful magnet and radio waves in an MRI Forearm. It offers a perspective on bone, marrow, muscle, tendon, ligaments, nerves, and soft tissues. A contrast may or may not be used in the examination.

Common Reasons for MRI Forearm

  • Persistent or unexplained forearm pain
  • Pain following an injury or accident
  • Suspected fracture or bone injury
  • Swelling or tenderness in the forearm
  • Suspected muscle or tendon injury
  • Evaluation of a soft-tissue mass or lump
  • Suspected nerve-related abnormalities
  • Suspected infection or inflammation
  • Evaluation of bone marrow abnormalities
  • Follow-up of a known lesion or previous treatment
  • Persistent symptoms despite initial treatment

Conditions Evaluated

Forearm Fractures and Bone Injuries

MRI can provide a detailed assessment of the radius and ulna and may help identify bone injuries, bone bruising, marrow changes, and other abnormalities.

Bone Marrow Abnormalities

The examination can help evaluate changes within the bone marrow, including edema, inflammation, infection, and other structural abnormalities.

Muscle and Tendon Injuries

MRI provides detailed visualization of forearm muscles and tendons and can help assess strains, tears, inflammation, and other soft-tissue injuries.

Soft-Tissue Masses

MRI can help assess lumps or masses in the forearm by providing detailed information about their size, location, and relationship with surrounding structures.

Nerve Abnormalities

The examination may help evaluate certain nerve-related abnormalities and their relationship with surrounding muscles and soft tissues.

Infection and Inflammation

MRI may be used to evaluate suspected infection or inflammatory changes involving the bones, muscles, and surrounding soft tissues.

Bone and Soft-Tissue Lesions

The examination can assist in evaluating suspected bone or soft-tissue lesions and determining their extent and involvement of adjacent structures.

Benefits of MRI Forearm

  • Provides detailed images of the forearm
  • Helps evaluate both bone and soft tissues
  • Does not use ionizing radiation
  • Useful for assessing injuries and persistent pain
  • Helps identify bone marrow and soft-tissue abnormalities
  • Supports evaluation of masses and lesions
  • Helps doctors with treatment planning and follow-up
