Advanced Diagnostic Centre Molecular Diagnostics is an NABL/NABH accredited diagnostic centre that offers MRI Face examination. The magnetic field and radio waves are used in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to produce an accurate facial representation in great detail, as well as any soft tissues surrounding the face. Helps the doctor when examining abnormal conditions of the facial bones, muscles, glands, nerves, and other parts of the face.
About MRI Face
The MRI Face is a non-invasive imaging technique that examines the structures of the face and surrounding area. Very good visualization of soft tissues which will help doctors investigate about abnormal swelling, lumps, pain, infection in the face. MRI is not harmful due to the use of ionising radiation, unlike X-rays and CT scans. Typically, the test is conducted without contrast, and when clinically indicated, the test is performed with contrast. Sometimes further information may be required about some abnormalities, infections, or tumours, and this supplementary information may be provided by using contrast.
What is MRI Face?
MRI Face is a specific, powerful imaging technology based on a strong magnetic field and radio frequencies that allows the fine image of the facial structure to be obtained. These pictures can help the radiologist to determine the characteristics of soft tissues, muscles, glands, and other tissues of the body. During the patient assessment, the patient is placed on the MRI table, which then moves into the scanner. The patient is asked to remain still during image acquisition to prevent blurred images. Various imaging sequences are employed in the study of various conditions. Contrast is only administered where necessary, following proper evaluation, as indicated by an intravenous (into a vein) injection.
Common Reasons for MRI Face
Facial Swelling: To investigate unexplained or persistent swelling in the facial region.
Facial Pain: Evaluation of ongoing facial pain when further imaging is required.
Lumps and Growths: Assessment of abnormal lumps, masses, or suspected tumours.
Infections: Investigation of suspected infections involving facial soft tissues.
Facial Injuries: Evaluation of selected soft-tissue injuries and abnormalities.
Nerve-Related Symptoms: Assessment of certain abnormalities involving facial nerves.
Post-Treatment Evaluation: Follow-up examination of previously diagnosed facial conditions when advised by a doctor.
Conditions Evaluated
Facial Soft Tissue Abnormalities
MRI helps examine the muscles, connective tissues, and other soft tissue structures of the face to identify swelling, inflammation, or abnormal growths.
Benign and Malignant Tumours
The examination helps assess suspected masses in the facial region, including their location, size, and relationship with nearby structures.
Inflammatory and Infectious Conditions
MRI can help evaluate inflammation, infections, and associated changes in facial soft tissues.
Salivary Gland Abnormalities
The examination may help assess the salivary glands and surrounding tissues for swelling, masses, or other structural abnormalities, depending on the scan coverage.
Facial Nerve and Muscle Abnormalities
MRI may help investigate selected conditions involving facial nerves and muscles when recommended by the treating doctor.

Book Your MRI Face
If your doctor has recommended an MRI Face, please contact Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy to schedule an appointment. Bring your doctor's prescription, earlier imaging reports, and all necessary medical reports. In the lead-up to the procedure, let the radiology staff know of any other metals in the body, past surgeries, kidney problems, and pregnancy. Additional preparation may be required if a contrast procedure will be administered, due to medical history.
Test information: Fasting is generally not required for a non-contrast MRI. If contrast is required, follow the preparation instructions provided by the centre.
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
Fasting is generally not required for a non-contrast MRI Face examination.
If contrast is required, follow the fasting and preparation instructions provided by the centre.
Inform the radiology staff if you have a pacemaker, cochlear implant, metal implants, surgical clips, or any other metal or electronic device inside your body.
Inform the staff about any previous surgeries, kidney problems, allergies, or history of reaction to MRI contrast agents.
Inform the staff if you are pregnant or suspect that you may be pregnant.
Tell the staff if you experience claustrophobia or have difficulty remaining still inside the scanner.
Remove jewellery, watches, hairpins, hearing aids, and other metal objects before entering the MRI room.
Carry your doctor's prescription, previous MRI or CT images, and relevant medical reports.
Follow the staff's instructions regarding contrast administration, if required.
Remain still during the scan to obtain clear images.
The patient is registered, and the MRI prescription and medical history are reviewed.
The radiology staff checks for implants, metal objects, previous surgeries, and other MRI safety concerns.
The patient is asked to remove jewellery, accessories, and other metallic items before entering the MRI room.
If contrast is required, an intravenous line is placed, and the contrast agent is administered after appropriate assessment.
The patient lies on the MRI table, and the head is positioned comfortably to obtain clear images of the facial region.
The table moves into the MRI scanner, where strong magnetic fields and radio waves are used to produce detailed images.
Multiple imaging sequences are performed to examine the facial soft tissues and other structures included in the scan.
The patient must remain still during image acquisition to avoid blurred images.
If required, additional images are taken after contrast administration to provide further information about the area being examined.
After the scan, the images are reviewed by the radiologist, and the report is prepared according to the centre's reporting schedule.
