MRI LEFT ANKLE

₹7000

Visit Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL & NABH Accredited Diagnostic Centre offering you advanced solutions in Radiology and diagnostic imaging; you can avail of your MRI Left Ankle in the best possible way. MRI Left Ankle generates detailed images of the ankle bones, joints, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and soft tissues. This test assists the physician in diagnosing chronic pain, swelling, sports injuries, loss of motion, etc., of the left ankle.

About MRI Left Ankle

MRI Left Ankle is a specialised examination for imaging in detail the internal parts of the left ankle joint. High-resolution images of the bones, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, muscles, and tissues around the bone are provided. MRI is particularly useful when studying soft tissues (those that are found between bones), as these are not as well examined by standard X-rays. It can be used to aid examination of persistent swelling, pain, stiffness, instability, and a history of injury that leads to ankle symptoms. MRI may be used to evaluate bone marrow abnormalities, occult fractures, cartilage damage, tendon disorders, and ligament injuries.

What is MRI Left Ankle?

Without the use of ionizing radiation, MRI Left Ankle employs a powerful magnetic field and radio waves to create a detailed image of the left ankle. The talus, tibia, fibula, and the ankle joint may be inspected, as may be the articular cartilage, the Achilles tendon, other tendons of the ankle, and the supporting ankle and other soft tissues. This includes relevant information on the anatomy and selected abnormalities. When symptoms remain with treatment or the physical exam and X-rays alone are still not very helpful in the diagnosis of the problem, MRI often is needed.

Common Reasons for MRI Left Ankle

  • Ongoing Ankle Pain – Assessment for pain that has been occurring for a long time/rest still not explained by the left ankle.
  • Ankle Injury: Structural Injury following an accident, fall, ankle twist, or sporting event.
  • Ligament Injuries: Evaluation of suspected sprain and/or partial or complete tear of ligament.
  • Swelling and Inflammation: Check for chronic swelling, tenderness, and/or potential joint inflammation.
  • Difficulty Walking: Assessment of abnormalities of the structure that affect movement or cause pain.
  • Occult Fractures: Identification of some fractures/bone injuries that cannot be well seen on X-rays.
  • Cartilage Damage: To evaluate the cartilage defects and osteochondral changes in the ankle joint.
  • Ankle Instability: When the ankle gives way again and again or when there is a feeling of the ankle giving out.
  • Patients with suspected changes to the marrow or other lesions.
  • Follow-Up of known conditions: Evaluation: If clinically indicated, select more specific ankle abnormalities.

Conditions Evaluated

Ligament Injuries

MRI is useful for imaging the complex of lateral and deltoid ligaments that anchor the ankle joint to allow for detailed images to be obtained. It may help with diagnosis of sprains, partial tearing, complete tearing, and any soft tissue changes.

Tendon Disorders

The exam can help to evaluate the Achilles tendon, peroneal tendon, posterior tibial tendon, and others around the ankle for tenderness, thinning, tearing, and/or associated abnormalities.

Achilles Tendon Abnormalities

MRI can assess the Achilles tendon to look for tendinopathy (partial or complete rupture of the tendon) and soft-tissue changes within the surrounding area of the Achilles tendon. It can be helpful if symptoms last longer and/or when more detailed assessment is needed.

Bone and Bone Marrow Abnormalities

Technically, MRI can identify bone marrow edema, stress injuries, selected occult fractures, and other abnormalities of the bone which may not be apparent on the standard X-ray.

Cartilage and Osteochondral Lesions

This exam will determine if there are defects, damage, and osteochondral lesions, especially on the talus, which underlies the ankle joint.

Joint Effusion and Inflammation

MRI may help to detect excess fluid in the ankle joint and/or any inflammatory changes of the lining and other tissues of the joint.

Ankle Impingement

During MRI, some soft tissue and bone abnormalities that are associated with ankle impingement, which can cause pain during some movements, can be assessed.

Soft-Tissue Abnormalities

The examination may aid in the detection of cysts or fluid build-up and other soft tissue changes in the area around the ankle. Depending on these findings, additional imaging and/or studies will be needed.

Stress Injuries

MRI can detect whether bone changes from a normal state to an abnormally injured state have occurred as a result of over or repeated stress or from over-exertion and whether they are a stress injury, such as changes in bone marrow.

Degenerative Joint Changes

For some joints, like the ankle, MRI may be used to diagnose some cartilage, bone, and soft tissue changes that can occur with some forms of joint degenerative disease.

Why Choose Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy?

Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is an NABL and NABH Accredited Diagnostic Centre equipped with modern and cutting-edge technology, providing Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Pathology services. An important aspect of our work is focusing on the procedures that we have chosen for our exams, the qualified personnel, and the reliability of our reporting system and patient treatment. Patients are advised about the MRI procedure and precautions to be taken to make the clinical time as efficient as possible.

Conclusion

MRI Left Ankle is a detailed examination of the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, cartilage,e and soft tissues around the left ankle that is done using images produced by MRI. It is helpful in the investigation of chronic pain, swelling, sports injuries, ankle instability, and suspected structural damage. In Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, the examination is applied to the diagnosis/therapy planning process to aid the decision-making process, based on imaging and the evaluation of the patient.

Test information: Usually, no fasting is required.

Reporting: Within 24 hours*

  • Usually, no fasting is required before the MRI Left Ankle scan.
  • Inform the medical team if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Tell the staff if you have a pacemaker, cochlear implant, metal implants, surgical clips, or any other implanted medical device. Mention any history of metal fragments in your body.
  • Inform the medical team about any previous ankle injury, surgery, fracture, or ongoing treatment.
  • Bring the doctor’s prescription, previous MRI or CT scans, X-ray images, and other relevant medical records.
  • Remove jewellery, watches, ankle accessories, and other metallic objects before entering the MRI room.
  • Wear comfortable clothing without metal fasteners. You may be asked to change into a hospital gown if needed.
  • Inform the staff if you have severe ankle pain or difficulty lying in the required position.
  • Follow the medical team’s instructions and remain still during image acquisition to help obtain clear images.
  • Do not stop prescribed medicines unless your doctor advises you to do so.
