Get your MRI Orbit With Contrast at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL & NABH Accredited Diagnostic Centre. In this advanced MRI examination, detailed images of the eye sockets (orbits), optic nerves, extraocular muscles, surrounding soft tissues, and adjacent structures. A contrast agent helps in providing additional information for selected inflammatory, infectious, vascular, and soft-tissue abnormalities. The examination is performed under expert radiologist supervision using advanced MRI technology.
About MRI ORBIT WITH CONTRAST
MRI Orbit With Contrast is a specialized imaging examination used for detailed evaluation of the orbits and surrounding structures. It combines high-resolution MRI with intravenous contrast enhancement to help characterize selected abnormalities. MRI uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images without ionizing radiation.
What is MRI ORBIT WITH CONTRAST?
This examination produces detailed cross-sectional images of the orbits, including the optic nerves, extraocular muscles, ocular structures, orbital fat, and surrounding soft tissues. Contrast material is administered when clinically indicated to improve visualization and characterization of certain abnormalities.
Common Reasons for MRI ORBIT WITH CONTRAST
Evaluation of unexplained eye or orbital symptoms
Assessment of optic nerve abnormalities
Evaluation of orbital masses or lesions
Assessment of inflammation or infection
Evaluation of extraocular muscle abnormalities
Assessment of selected vascular abnormalities
Further evaluation of abnormal findings on previous imaging
Assessment of postoperative or treatment-related changes
Conditions Evaluated
Orbital Masses and Lesions
Contrast-enhanced MRI can help characterize certain masses and lesions involving the orbit and surrounding soft tissues.
Optic Nerve Abnormalities
MRI can provide detailed visualization of the optic nerves and help assess selected abnormalities.
Orbital Inflammation
The examination can help evaluate inflammatory changes involving the orbit, extraocular muscles, and surrounding tissues.
Orbital Infection
MRI with contrast can provide additional information when infection involving the orbit or adjacent structures is suspected.
Extraocular Muscle Abnormalities
MRI can assess the size, structure, and enhancement of the extraocular muscles in selected conditions.
Vascular Abnormalities
The examination can provide detailed information about selected vascular or blood-flow-related abnormalities involving the orbit.
Who Should Consider This Scan?
Your doctor may recommend an MRI Orbit With Contrast if you have:
Persistent or unexplained orbital or eye-related symptoms
Suspected optic nerve abnormality
A suspected orbital mass or lesion
Suspected inflammation or infection
Abnormal findings on previous imaging
Suspected extraocular muscle abnormality
A need for detailed postoperative or treatment assessment
Benefits of MRI ORBIT WITH CONTRAST
Detailed imaging of the orbits and surrounding structures
Excellent visualization of the optic nerves and soft tissues
Contrast enhancement for selected abnormalities
No ionizing radiation
Helps provide additional information when other imaging is inconclusive
Supports diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up when clinically indicated

Test information: Fasting: 4–6 hours
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
Fast for 4–6 hours before the examination, unless otherwise advised by your doctor or imaging centre.
Essential medicines may usually be taken with a small amount of water unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Inform the radiology team about any pacemaker, implanted device, aneurysm clip, cochlear implant, metal fragment, or other metallic implant.
Inform the team about any previous reaction to MRI contrast agents.
Inform your doctor or radiology team if you have kidney disease or reduced kidney function, as additional assessment may be required before contrast administration.
Inform the team if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.
Remove jewelry, watches, hair accessories, contact-lens cases, and other metallic objects before the examination.
Wear comfortable clothing without metal components where possible.
Bring previous MRI, CT, ultrasound, ophthalmic, or other relevant imaging reports for comparison.
Inform the radiology team about any recent eye surgery, orbital procedure, injury, biopsy, or ongoing treatment.
Follow any additional instructions provided by the radiology team based on your clinical condition.
The radiology team reviews your clinical history, symptoms, previous imaging, and relevant ophthalmic information.
MRI safety screening is performed to check for implants, metallic objects, and other conditions that may affect the examination.
You are positioned comfortably on the MRI table with the head placed in a dedicated head or orbital coil.
The MRI scanner acquires high-resolution images of the orbits, optic nerves, extraocular muscles, ocular structures, orbital fat, and surrounding soft tissues.
An intravenous line is placed, and the prescribed MRI contrast agent is administered when clinically indicated.
Additional MRI sequences are obtained after contrast administration to evaluate and characterize selected abnormalities.
You will be asked to remain still during image acquisition to maintain image quality.
The examination does not use ionizing radiation.
After the scan, the images are reviewed by an experienced radiologist for assessment of the orbits and surrounding structures.
Reporting is provided within 24 hours.
