MRI PAROTID GLAND

₹11000

Get the best MRI Parotid Gland done at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre offering state-of-the-art radiology and diagnostic imaging services. The MRI Parotid Gland provides useful detailed images of the parotid glands and surrounding structures to help doctors determine if the salivary glands are enlarged, with any lumps, inflammation, tumour, and other abnormalities.

About MRI Parotid Gland

MRI Parotid Gland is a specialised imaging test which is designed to evaluate the parotid glands (the largest of the major salivary glands that are located in front of, and just underneath, each ear). It has a big contribution to oral well-being and saliva production. MRI has the ability to give detailed images of the glandular tissue, surrounding soft tissues, facial nerve region, adjacent lymph nodes, and surrounding anatomical structures. It can be very useful for soft-tissue masses and abnormalities, where a more detailed characterization is needed.

What is MRI Parotid Gland?

It uses radio waves and a powerful magnetic field to produce detailed images of the parotid glands and tissues surrounding the glands, but without the use of any kind of ionizing radiation. During examination, the size, shape, internal structure, and extent of an anomaly of the parotid glands may be evaluated. It can also be helpful in evaluating surrounding lymph nodes and soft tissue involved or the location of a lesion relative to major structures. For some cases, a routine MRI might be enough, but contrast-enhanced MRI may be indicated in instances where additional diagnosis of a mass, inflammatory, infectious, or other abnormality is desired.

Common Reasons for MRI Parotid Gland

  • Swelling Near the Ear: Assessing for persistent or unexplained swelling in front of and below the ear.
  • Salivary Gland Tumour: Swelling or mass of the salivary gland believed to be a cancer.
  • Evaluation of recurrent or persistent enlargement of the parotid gland (recurrent gland enlargement).
  • Evaluate suspected inflammatory disease of the salivary gland.
  • Facial Nerve-Related Concerns: Investigation of nerve-related tumors that are related to the facial nerve and the area surrounding it.
  • Abnormal Previous Imaging: More tests conducted to see if there are any sonographic, computed tomography (CT) scan, etc., findings.
  • Lymph Node Abnormalities: Evaluation of lymph nodes that are near the abnormal lymph node that is suspected.
  • Follow-Up of Known Lesion: Clinical observation or further studies of an abnormal parotid gland found at some other time.

Conditions Evaluated

Parotid Gland Tumours

MRI can provide excellent description of the masses within the parotid glands, as well as help establish the location, size, internal characteristics, and relation of masses to other tissues in the area. Further tests such as a diagnosis by biopsy have to be performed to make a definitive diagnosis.

Benign Salivary Gland Lesions

Selected benign lesions of the parotid gland may be assessed using this examination, which shows the structure and extent of these lesions. The interpretation of imaging is correlated with the clinical evaluation and with the opportunity of other appropriate tests.

Suspected Malignant Lesions

MRI can also help to see if there is an abnormal growth in the parotid gland and can check if the tissue around the gland is affected. It is a guide to further investigation and treatment planning, but will NOT make a diagnosis by itself.

Inflammatory and Infectious Conditions

MRI may aid in the evaluation of certain inflammatory changes of the parotid glands and surrounding tissues. It may provide other information if the clinical picture is suggestive of an abnormality, but provides clues about its degree or suspicion of complication.

Cysts and Fluid-Containing Lesions

In certain abnormalities of the parotid gland, MRI may be useful in differentiating the cystic from the solid component and the connections of the latter with surrounding structures.

Salivary Gland Structural Abnormalities

The examination can assess changes in gland size, shape, and internal structure that may be associated with salivary gland disorders.

Facial Nerve Region and Adjacent Structures

MRI provides good images of parotid gland surrounding soft tissues and can help to assess the relation of the lesion to the facial nerve area. For some nerve problems, special imaging may be required.

Regional Lymph Node Abnormalities

MRI is sometimes used in addition to other imaging tests for the evaluation of nearby lymph nodes that can become enlarged or change in their structure. Additional monitoring might be needed in response to those findings.

Post-Treatment and Post-Surgical Changes

On occasion, MRI is ordered to help assess some of the abnormalities following therapy and/or surgery, for example, remaining soft-tissue abnormalities or abnormalities suspected to have recurred following a previous diagnosis.

Why Choose Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy?

Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, a NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic center, has state-of-the-art facilities in the field of Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Pathology. Our imaging services focus on both the correct use of imaging approaches and the use of imaging experts; reliable reporting; and the understanding of the patient. In a sequential approach to diagnosis, patients are educated regarding the MRI procedure and concerns of MRI safety.

Conclusion

MRI Parotid Gland is a special imaging test that provides more detailed images of any swelling, masses, or other problems that may be affecting the parotid salivary glands. Provides more information about the glandular tissue and other surrounding structures that can help the clinician assess certain inflammatory processes, cysts, and suspected tumours. In Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, the test is used to aid in the diagnosis in the context of a clinical history and to assist with diagnosis or treatment planning.

Test information: Usually, no fasting is required.

Reporting: Within 24 hours*

  • Usually, no fasting is required before the MRI Parotid Gland scan.
  • Inform the medical team if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Tell the medical team if you have a pacemaker, cochlear implant, metal implants, or any other implanted medical device. Inform them about any history of metal fragments in your body.
  • Inform the doctor if you have kidney disease or have previously experienced a reaction to MRI contrast, especially if contrast-enhanced MRI is planned.
  • Follow the centre’s instructions regarding any kidney function tests or other investigations required before contrast administration.
  • Remove jewellery, watches, hairpins, hearing aids, and other metallic objects before entering the MRI room.
  • Bring the doctor’s prescription, previous MRI or CT scans, ultrasound reports, biopsy results, and other relevant medical records.
  • Inform the medical team about any swelling, pain, infection, previous surgery, or treatment involving the parotid glands.
  • Wear comfortable clothing without metal fasteners and follow the staff’s instructions throughout the examination.
  • Remain still during image acquisition to help obtain clear images.
