- No fasting or special dietary preparation is required for the EMG (Electromyography) Test.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the muscles being examined.
- Do not apply lotions, creams, oils, or moisturizers to the skin on the day of the examination, as they may interfere with electrode placement.
- Inform your doctor if you are taking blood-thinning medications (anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs) or have a bleeding disorder, as the test involves the insertion of fine needle electrodes into the muscles.
- Inform your doctor or neurophysiology technician if you have a pacemaker, implanted defibrillator, deep brain stimulator, spinal cord stimulator, or any other implanted electronic medical device.
- Inform your doctor about any neurological disorders, diabetes, recent injuries, muscle disorders, surgeries, infections, or other significant medical conditions.
- Carry previous EMG, NCV, MRI, CT scan, X-ray reports, laboratory investigations, or neurological medical records, if available, for comparison and accurate evaluation.
- Follow the technician's instructions during the examination and relax the muscles when requested. You may also be asked to gently contract specific muscles during the test.
