Book your MRI Left Scapula at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL- and NABH-accredited diagnostic centre that offers advanced radiology and imaging services. MRI Left Scapula is a comprehensive imaging examination to evaluate abnormalities associated with the left scapula and surrounding tissues.

About MRI Left Scapula

The MRI Left Scapula is a specialized MRI scan procedure to examine the left scapula (shoulder blade) and surrounding soft tissues and nearby structures. It is able to deliver detailed images useful for visualizing bone and soft tissue abnormalities. The scan is suggested for persistent pain in the left scapular region, if there is a suspicion of injury, swelling, unexplained symptoms, or for follow-up of a previously diagnosed condition in the left scapular region, but only when clinically indicated.

What is MRI Left Scapula?

MRI Left Scapula is utilized with a powerful magnetic field and radio waves to generate detailed images of the left scapula and related structures. It is useful for clearly visualizing the bone marrow along with muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues around the scapular area. The examination may be done with or without contrast depending on the clinical need.

Common Reasons for MRI Left Scapula

  • Persistent pain around the left shoulder blade
  • Pain following an injury or accident
  • Suspected fracture or bone injury
  • Swelling or tenderness around the left scapula
  • Suspected muscle or soft-tissue injury
  • Unexplained left shoulder or upper back pain
  • Suspected bone marrow abnormality
  • Evaluation of a lump or soft-tissue mass
  • Suspected infection or inflammation
  • Follow-up of a known abnormality
  • Persistent symptoms despite initial treatment

Conditions Evaluated

Bone Marrow Abnormalities

The examination can help evaluate changes within the bone marrow, including edema, inflammation, and other structural abnormalities.

Muscle and Soft-Tissue Injuries

MRI provides detailed visualization of muscles and soft tissues around the left scapula and can help assess strains, tears, inflammation, and other injuries.

Tendon and Ligament Abnormalities

The scan may help evaluate tendons, ligaments, and supporting structures around the left shoulder and scapular region for injury or other abnormalities.

Soft-Tissue Masses

MRI can help assess lumps or masses around the left scapula by providing detailed information about their size, location, and relationship with surrounding structures.

Infection and Inflammation

MRI may be used to evaluate suspected infection or inflammatory changes involving the left scapula or nearby soft tissues.

Bone and Soft-Tissue Lesions

The examination can assist in evaluating suspected bone or soft-tissue lesions and determining their extent and involvement of adjacent structures.

Benefits of MRI Left Scapula

  • Provides detailed images of the left scapula and surrounding structures
  • Helps evaluate both bone and soft tissues
  • Does not use ionizing radiation
  • Useful for assessing injuries and persistent pain
  • Helps identify bone marrow and soft-tissue abnormalities
  • Supports evaluation of masses and lesions
  • Helps doctors with treatment planning and follow-up

Reporting: Within 24 hours*

  • Usually, no fasting is required for a routine non-contrast MRI of the left scapula.
  • Inform the MRI team about any pacemaker, implanted cardiac device, surgical clips, artificial joints, pumps, metal implants, or other medical devices.
  • Inform the healthcare professional if you may have metal fragments in the eyes or body, particularly from previous metal-related work or injuries.
  • Inform the medical team about any previous surgery involving the left shoulder, scapula, chest, or upper back.
  • If contrast-enhanced MRI is planned, inform the doctor about any previous reaction to MRI contrast and any known kidney disease or reduced kidney function.
  • Inform the healthcare professional if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy.
  • Bring previous MRI, CT, X-ray reports, prescriptions, or other relevant medical records if available.
  • Remove jewellery, watches, belts, hair accessories, and other metallic or magnetic objects before entering the MRI room.
  • Wear comfortable clothing without metallic components whenever possible.
  • Inform the MRI team if you have significant pain, swelling, restricted shoulder movement, or difficulty remaining in one position.
