About MRI Pelvis – With Contrast

Contrast-enhanced MRI of the Pelvis is a detailed imaging examination used to evaluate the pelvic region and its internal and surrounding structures. MRI uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to produce high-resolution images without ionizing radiation. The administration of contrast may improve visualization and characterization of certain abnormalities when recommended by the treating doctor.

What is MRI Pelvis – With Contrast?

During the examination, the patient lies comfortably on the MRI table, which moves into the scanner. Multiple imaging sequences are obtained to evaluate the pelvic organs, bones, soft tissues, and surrounding structures. A contrast agent is administered intravenously when required, followed by additional MRI sequences to assess areas showing enhancement.

Common Reasons for MRI Pelvis – With Contrast

  • Evaluation of pelvic masses or lesions
  • Assessment of suspected tumours
  • Evaluation of pelvic pain or unexplained symptoms
  • Assessment of inflammation or infection
  • Evaluation of soft-tissue abnormalities
  • Assessment of abnormalities detected on ultrasound or CT
  • Evaluation of postoperative or treatment-related changes
  • Detailed assessment of pelvic organs and surrounding structures

Conditions Evaluated

Pelvic Tumours and Masses

MRI can provide detailed information about the location, size, and extent of suspected pelvic masses or tumours.

Pelvic Infections

Contrast-enhanced MRI can help evaluate inflammatory and infectious changes involving pelvic organs and surrounding tissues.

Soft-Tissue Abnormalities

The examination provides detailed visualization of muscles, connective tissues, and other soft-tissue structures within the pelvis.

Bone and Joint Abnormalities

MRI can assess the pelvic bones, sacroiliac joints, and surrounding structures for various abnormalities.

Postoperative Changes

Contrast enhancement can assist in evaluating postoperative findings and other treatment-related changes when clinically indicated.
