MRI SCAPULA

₹7000

Book your MRI Scapula at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre that offers advanced Radiology and Imaging services.  MRI Scapula can image the shoulder blade as well as the bones in its vicinity, muscles, tendons, and soft tissues to assess pain, injury, swelling, or other abnormalities.

About MRI Scapula

MRI Scapula is a type of specialized MRI examination that is performed to investigate the scapula (shoulder blade) and the soft tissues and any other tissues that are nearby. It offers high-resolution images that can assist with diagnosing problems in bones and soft tissue. It may be advised if pain persists, if an injury is suspected, if there is swelling, if there are unexplained symptoms, or for follow-up of a diagnosed condition, but only when clinically indicated.

What is MRI Scapula?

MRI Scapula is the use of a powerful magnetic field and high-energy radio waves to generate detailed pictures of the scapula and other structures. Does not use ionising radiation like X-rays or CT scans. It can give detailed visualization of the bone marrow, muscles, tendons, and ligaments around the scapular region. Contrast may be used as appropriate for the clinical need.

Common Reasons for MRI Scapula

  • Persistent pain around the shoulder blade
  • Pain following an injury or accident
  • Suspected fracture or bone injury
  • Swelling or tenderness around the scapula
  • Suspected muscle or soft-tissue injury
  • Unexplained shoulder or upper back pain
  • Suspected bone marrow abnormality
  • Evaluation of a lump or soft-tissue mass
  • Suspected infection or inflammation
  • Follow-up of a known abnormality
  • Persistent symptoms despite initial treatment

Conditions Evaluated

Scapular Fractures and Injuries

MRI can provide a detailed assessment of the scapula and may help identify bone injuries, bone bruising, marrow changes, and other abnormalities that may not be clearly visible on initial imaging.

Bone Marrow Abnormalities

The examination can help evaluate changes within the bone marrow, including edema, inflammation, and other structural abnormalities.

Muscle and Soft-Tissue Injuries

MRI provides detailed visualization of muscles and soft tissues around the scapula and can help assess strains, tears, inflammation, and other injuries.

Infection and Inflammation

MRI may be used to evaluate suspected infection or inflammatory changes involving the scapula or nearby soft tissues.

Bone and Soft-Tissue Lesions

The examination can assist in evaluating suspected bone or soft-tissue lesions and determining their extent and involvement of adjacent structures.

Benefits of MRI Scapula

  • Provides detailed images of the scapula and surrounding structures
  • Helps evaluate both bone and soft tissues
  • Does not use ionizing radiation
  • Useful for assessing injuries and persistent pain
  • Helps identify bone marrow and soft-tissue abnormalities
  • Supports evaluation of masses and lesions
  • Helps doctors with treatment planning and follow-up

Book Your MRI Scapula

Discuss an MRI Scapula with a doctor if the patient is suffering from pain, swelling, or an unknown problem in the area around the shoulder blade, and follow the centre’s preparation instructions before the MRI Scapula.

Test information: Usually, no fasting is required before the MRI Scapula examination.

Reporting: Within 24 hours*

  • Usually, no fasting is required for a routine non-contrast MRI of the scapula.
  • Inform the MRI team about any pacemaker, implanted cardiac device, surgical clips, artificial joints, pumps, metal implants, or other medical devices.
  • Inform the healthcare professional if you may have metal fragments in the eyes or body, particularly from previous metal-related work or injuries.
  • Inform the medical team about any previous surgery involving the shoulder, scapula, chest, or upper back.
  • If contrast-enhanced MRI is planned, inform the doctor about any previous reaction to MRI contrast and any known kidney disease or reduced kidney function.
  • Inform the healthcare professional if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy.
  • Bring previous MRI, CT, X-ray reports, prescriptions, or other relevant medical records if available.
  • Remove jewellery, watches, belts, hair accessories, and other metallic or magnetic objects before entering the MRI room.
  • Wear comfortable clothing without metallic components whenever possible.
  • Inform the MRI team if you have significant pain, swelling, restricted shoulder movement, or difficulty remaining in one position.
  • Remain still during image acquisition to help obtain clear images of the scapula and surrounding tissues.
  • Follow any additional instructions provided by the radiology or MRI team.
