About X-Ray Both Wrists AP View
A specialized type of X-ray examination, called an X-ray Both Wrists AP (Anteroposterior) View, can be performed that will capture X-ray pictures of the front of the left wrist and the front of the right wrist. The distal radius, distal ulna, carpal bones, and wrist joints are shown in detail. Two views of each wrist can be obtained, which will aid in the diagnosis of subtle fractures, alignment abnormalities, and developmental variants in comparison with the other wrist. A highly sophisticated digital radiography system is used in Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy to deliver a much higher resolution image that enables an accurate evaluation of wrist injuries and disorders.
What is an X-Ray Both Wrists AP View?
X-ray Both Wrists AP View: Painless, fast, and safe imaging exam that checks bone and joint health of both wrists. The AP view will be helpful for bone alignment and joint spaces, fractures, degenerative changes, and any other abnormalities of the wrist, and will provide a view from the front. The exam is frequently ordered for patients who have wrist pain, wrist swelling, and decreased range of motion (ROM).
Common Reasons for an X-Ray of Both Wrists AP View
Wrist injury following a fall or accident
Persistent pain in one or both wrists
Suspected wrist fracture
Swelling or tenderness around the wrist
Difficulty moving the wrist
Evaluation of arthritis
Assessment of congenital wrist abnormalities
Follow-up after wrist surgery or treatment
Conditions Evaluated
Wrist Fractures
Detects fractures involving the distal radius, distal ulna, carpal bones, or surrounding structures.
Joint Alignment Abnormalities
Evaluates the alignment of the wrist joints and bones.

The patient is seated beside or standing facing the digital X-ray detector as instructed by the radiographer.
Both hands are placed flat on the X-ray detector with the palms facing downward to obtain Anteroposterior (AP) views of both wrists.
The examination evaluates the distal radius, distal ulna, carpal bones, wrist joints, and surrounding bony structures.
Imaging both wrists allows the radiologist to compare the right and left sides, helping identify subtle fractures, joint alignment abnormalities, congenital variations, arthritis, and other wrist disorders.
You will be asked to keep both hands completely still while each X-ray image is taken to ensure sharp, high-quality images.
Additional X-ray views, such as lateral or oblique projections, may be obtained if required for a more detailed assessment.
The examination is quick, painless, non-invasive, and does not require contrast material.
The procedure usually takes 10–15 minutes.
Reports are generally available within 04 hours*.
