About X-Ray Caldwell View
The X-Ray Caldwell View is actually a radiographic projection that is certainly of the skull and paranasal sinuses. It is most often used to assess the frontal and ethmoid sinuses and the bones with respect to the eyes and nose. The patient is lying with the forehead and nose on the X-ray detector, which provides the best X-ray image of these areas. We use state-of-the-art digital X-ray machines for quality images of your X-rays at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy that allow for a very low radiation dose.
What is an X-Ray Caldwell View?
An X-Ray Caldwell View is an imaging procedure that enables the assessment of the frontal area of the skull and facial bones without invasiveness. It offers a good degree of detail of the frontal sinuses, ethmoid air cells, orbital rims, and nasal bones and is useful in diagnosing sinus disease, fractures, and congenital deformities. X-rays of the skull or sinuses are often taken in conjunction with this view for a more thorough evaluation.
Common Reasons for an X-Ray Caldwell View
Evaluation of frontal sinus infections
Assessment of chronic or recurrent sinusitis
Investigation of facial trauma
Detection of nasal bone or orbital fractures
Evaluation of headaches related to sinus disease
Assessment of congenital skull or facial abnormalities
Follow-up of sinus disorders
Pre-operative evaluation of sinus conditions
Conditions Evaluated
Frontal Sinusitis
Detects inflammation, fluid levels, or opacification within the frontal sinuses.
Ethmoid Sinus Disease
Evaluates infection or abnormalities involving the ethmoid air cells.
Facial Fractures
Assesses fractures involving the frontal bone, nasal bones, and orbital rims.
Nasal Bone Abnormalities
Helps identify deformities or traumatic injuries affecting the nasal region.
Orbital Bone Injuries
Evaluates bony structures surrounding the eyes after facial trauma.
Congenital Skull Abnormalities
Detects developmental abnormalities affecting the skull and facial bones.
Who Should Consider an X-Ray Caldwell View?
Your doctor may recommend this examination if you:
Have persistent sinus pain or pressure
Experience chronic nasal congestion
Have suffered facial trauma
Need evaluation of suspected sinus infection
Have unexplained headaches related to sinus disease
Require follow-up imaging after treatment for sinus disorders
