About X-Ray Chest AP View

An X-ray Chest AP (Anteroposterior) View is an imaging test with X-rays that are made on the chest and pass through from the front (anterior) to the rear (posterior). This view is generally completed for patients who are not able to stand, including hospitalized, ICU patients, elderly patients, and trauma patients. Advanced digital radiography (DR) systems enable us to take Chest AP X-rays quickly to create high-resolution and sharp images, while keeping our patients as safe and comfortable as possible.

What is an X-Ray Chest AP View?

X-Ray Chest AP View is a fast, non-invasive, painless imaging procedure to view the lungs, heart, airways, ribs, and surrounding chest area. It assists physicians in uncovering chest issues, lung disease, heart enlargement, fluid build-up, and also fractures or other kinds of abnormalities of the chest.

The PA (Posteroanterior) view is the most advantageous for routine examination of the chest, but there are situations, such as standing or posteroanterior imaging and bedside imaging, when the AP view is utilized.

Common Reasons for an X-Ray Chest AP View

  • Persistent cough
  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fever with suspected lung infection
  • Evaluation after chest injury or trauma
  • Assessment of heart enlargement
  • Follow-up of lung diseases
  • Pre-operative or routine medical evaluation
