About X-Ray Left Hip Joint AP View
An X-ray left hip joint AP view is a special type of X-ray image that is taken to capture (look at) a frontal (Anteroposterior) view of the left hip joint. This perspective helps provide a thorough evaluation of the acetabulum (hip socket), femoral head, femoral neck, hip joint space, and its surrounding bony structures. It is routinely performed to assess hip joint alignment and health and diagnose a wide array of orthopedic problems. We have cutting-edge digital radiography systems to create high-resolution images for accurate evaluation of musculoskeletal injuries and disorders in the hip at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy.
What is an X-Ray Left Hip Joint AP View?
X-ray left hip joint AP view is an X-ray procedure to examine the bones and joint in the left hip that is quick, painless, and non-invasive. With this approach, the AP (anteroposterior) view can be used to visualize the entire hip, to check for fractures, to see whether there is a joint anomaly, and to examine the hip for degenerative or inflammatory changes. This exam is often warranted for people who are having trouble walking, pain in or injury to the hip, or stiffness in the hip.
Common Reasons for an X-Ray Left Hip Joint AP View
Left hip injury following a fall or accident
Persistent hip pain
Suspected hip fracture
Hip dislocation
Difficulty walking or bearing weight
Hip stiffness or reduced range of motion
Evaluation of osteoarthritis
Follow-up after hip surgery or fracture treatment
Conditions Evaluated
Hip Fractures
Detects fractures involving the femoral head, femoral neck, acetabulum, or upper femur.
Hip Dislocation
Evaluates abnormal alignment or displacement of the left hip joint.
Osteoarthritis
Assesses joint space narrowing, bone spurs, and degenerative changes affecting the hip.
Avascular Necrosis (AVN)
Helps identify structural changes caused by reduced blood supply to the femoral head.
Congenital Hip Abnormalities
Evaluates developmental abnormalities involving the hip joint.
Post-Traumatic and Post-Surgical Changes
Monitors healing following fractures, hip replacement, or other orthopedic procedures.
Who Should Consider This X-Ray?
Your doctor may recommend this examination if you:
Have persistent pain in the left hip
Have suffered trauma to the hip
Experience difficulty walking or standing
Have suspected fractures or hip dislocation
Need follow-up imaging after treatment or surgery
Require evaluation before an orthopedic consultation

The patient is positioned lying on the X-ray table or standing, depending on the clinical requirement and the radiographer's instructions.
A Left Hip Joint Anteroposterior (AP) View is obtained to evaluate the left femoral head, femoral neck, acetabulum (hip socket), hip joint space, and surrounding pelvic bones.
The AP projection provides a clear frontal assessment of hip joint alignment, fractures, arthritis, degenerative changes, avascular necrosis, congenital abnormalities, and other bony conditions affecting the left hip.
Proper positioning of the leg and pelvis is essential to obtain accurate and high-quality diagnostic images.
You will be asked to remain completely still while the X-ray image is taken to avoid motion blur.
Additional X-ray views may be recommended if further evaluation of the hip joint is required.
The examination is quick, painless, non-invasive, and does not require contrast material.
The procedure usually takes 10–15 minutes.
Reports are generally available within 04 hours*.
