Book X-Ray - Left thumb AP & lateral views at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, which is an NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre functioning in Radiology and Pathology with cutting-edge technology services. This sophisticated digital X-ray imaging allows us to obtain precise X-rays of the front (AP) and side (lateral) views of the thumb, making it easier to determine the cause of discomfort and diagnose a fracture, dislocation, arthritis, ligament irregularity, or other cause of pain in the thumb. Our qualified radiologists provide precise and reliable imaging at the lowest radiation dosage and are quick to report back, helping to facilitate an accurate diagnosis and to ensure effective treatment planning.
About X-Ray Left Thumb AP & Lateral Views
X-ray Left Thumb AP & Lateral Views is an imaging type of test to take two X-rays of the left thumb. AP – the peak on a frontal image is shown horizontally; the right side is put on the left. On the lateral image, the profile image is located with the right side on the left. These views will give a good idea about the thumb phalanges, the first metacarpal, CMC (carpometacarpal) joint, MCP (metacarpophalangeal) joint, IP (interphalangeal) joint, and the adjacent bones. At Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, our advanced digital imaging system allows for a high-resolution image to assess the injury to the thumb as well as to help ascertain musculoskeletal injuries.
What is an X-Ray Left Thumb AP & Lateral Views?
An X-ray Left Thumb AP & Lateral View is an imaging exam that uses X-rays to check the bones and joints in the left thumb and is quick, non-invasive, and painless. The lateral view and the AP view can be used to assess the bones for alignment, suspected fractures, thumb joint dislocations, and the effects of degenerative or inflammatory processes of the thumb. It is typically recommended when a person's thumb is painful, enlarged, or has suffered trauma, or they have difficulty moving or holding onto objects.
Common Reasons for an X-Ray Left Thumb AP & Lateral Views
Left thumb injury following a fall or accident
Persistent thumb pain
Suspected thumb fracture
Thumb dislocation
Swelling or tenderness around the thumb
Difficulty gripping or pinching objects
Evaluation of arthritis
Follow-up after thumb surgery or fracture treatment
Conditions Evaluated
Thumb Fractures
Detects fractures involving the thumb phalanges, first metacarpal, or the base of the thumb.
Thumb Dislocation
Evaluates abnormal alignment or displacement of the thumb joints.
Osteoarthritis
Assesses joint space narrowing, bone spurs, and degenerative changes affecting the thumb joints, particularly the carpometacarpal (CMC) joint.
Bone Lesions
Helps identify bone cysts, tumors, or other abnormalities affecting the thumb.
Congenital Thumb Abnormalities
Evaluates developmental abnormalities involving the thumb bones and joints.
Post-Traumatic and Post-Surgical Changes
Monitors healing following fractures, ligament injuries, or orthopedic procedures involving the thumb.

The patient is seated beside the X-ray table with the left hand comfortably positioned as instructed by the radiographer.
Anteroposterior (AP) and Lateral Views of the left thumb are obtained to evaluate the thumb phalanges, first metacarpal, carpometacarpal (CMC) joint, metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint, interphalangeal (IP) joint, and surrounding bony structures.
The AP and lateral projections provide complementary views that help assess thumb fractures, joint dislocations, arthritis, ligament-related bony injuries, bone lesions, congenital abnormalities, and other musculoskeletal conditions affecting the thumb.
The thumb will be positioned carefully in different orientations to obtain clear images while ensuring your comfort.
You will be asked to remain completely still while each X-ray image is taken to ensure sharp, high-quality images.
Additional X-ray views may be obtained if required for a more comprehensive assessment.
The examination is quick, painless, non-invasive, and does not require contrast material.
The procedure usually takes 10–15 minutes.
Reports are generally available within 04 hours.
