Choose a Medical diagnostic centre like Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL and NABH-accredited diagnostic centre, for your X-ray Left Upper Femur – Hip AP & Lateral Views. The high-quality front (AP) and side (Lateral) X-ray images of the left upper femur and hip joint view, provided by our state-of-the-art digital X-ray technology, assist in the diagnosis of fractures, dislocations, arthritis, and other hip and upper thigh conditions. Our highly-trained radiologists give you an accurate picture and expose you to as little radiation as possible, and deliver the reports to you promptly enough to ensure correct diagnosis and treatment planning.
About X-Ray Left Upper Femur – Hip AP & Lateral Views
An X-ray of the left upper femur – hip AP & lateral views is a special type of X-ray imaging taken of the left upper femur and hip joint. In the Anteroposterior (AP) view, there is a frontal image, and the Lateral view is a profile taken from the side. These views give a full picture of the femoral head, the femoral neck, the greater and lesser trochanters, and the acetabulum (hip socket), the hip joint space, and the surrounding bones. At Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, we adopt high-tech digital radiography technologies that enable high-resolution images, which are critical to diagnose hip injuries and musculoskeletal disorders correctly.
What is an X-Ray Left Upper Femur – Hip AP & Lateral Views?
An X-Ray Left Upper Femur – Hip AP & Lateral Views is an imaging test that will check the bones or joints of the left upper femur and hip (thigh bone), and is quick, painless, and non-invasive. X-rays with the AP and lateral projections may help the doctor see the bone alignment and many other uses, such as for detecting fractures, joint dislocations, and degenerative (scarring) or inflammatory (infection) problems of the hip. This test is typically requested for people with hip or groin pain, trauma, trouble with walking, and/or limited hip mobility.
Common Reasons for an X-Ray Left Upper Femur – Hip AP & Lateral Views
Left hip or upper thigh injury following a fall or accident
Persistent hip or groin pain
Suspected fracture of the femoral neck or upper femur
Hip dislocation
Difficulty walking or bearing weight
Reduced range of motion of the hip
Evaluation of osteoarthritis
Follow-up after hip surgery or fracture treatment
Conditions Evaluated
Upper Femur Fractures
Detects fractures involving the femoral head, femoral neck, intertrochanteric region, and upper femoral shaft.
Hip Dislocation
Evaluates abnormal alignment or displacement of the hip joint.
Osteoarthritis
Assesses joint space narrowing, bone spurs, and degenerative changes affecting the hip joint.
Avascular Necrosis (AVN)
Helps identify structural changes in the femoral head caused by reduced blood supply.
Bone Lesions
Evaluates bone cysts, tumors, or other abnormalities affecting the upper femur and hip.
Post-Traumatic and Post-Surgical Changes
Monitors healing following fractures, hip replacement, internal fixation, or other orthopedic procedures.
Who Should Consider This X-Ray?
Your doctor may recommend this examination if you:

Test information: Fasting NOT needed
Reporting: Within 04 hours*
No fasting or special preparation is required for this X-ray examination.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Avoid clothing with metal buttons, zippers, belts, or metallic accessories around the hip and upper thigh region.
You may be asked to remove jewellery, belts, or any metallic objects from the pelvic and hip area before the examination.
Inform the radiographer if you are pregnant or suspect you may be pregnant, as X-rays involve ionising radiation.
Bring your doctor's referral along with any previous X-rays, CT scans, MRI scans, or orthopedic imaging reports of the hip, pelvis, or femur for comparison.
Continue taking your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Inform the radiographer if you have recently sustained a hip injury, undergone hip surgery, or have metal implants, plates, screws, rods, or a hip replacement.
If you have severe pain or difficulty standing, walking, or moving your hip, inform the staff before the examination so they can assist you safely with positioning.

The patient is positioned lying on the X-ray table according to the radiographer's instructions.
Anteroposterior (AP) and Lateral Views of the left upper femur and hip joint are obtained to evaluate the femoral head, femoral neck, greater and lesser trochanters, acetabulum (hip socket), hip joint space, and adjacent bony structures.
The two projections provide complementary views that help assess upper femur fractures, hip dislocations, osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis (AVN), bone lesions, congenital abnormalities, and post-traumatic or post-surgical changes.
The affected leg may be gently positioned or rotated as required to obtain clear, high-quality images while ensuring patient comfort.
You will be asked to remain completely still while each X-ray image is taken to ensure sharp and accurate images.
Additional X-ray views may be obtained if required for a more comprehensive assessment.
The examination is quick, painless, non-invasive, and does not require contrast material.
The procedure usually takes 10–15 minutes.
Reports are generally available within 04 hours*.
