About X-Ray Mandible PA & Right Lateral Oblique View

An X-ray mandible PA & Right Lateral Oblique View is a special X-ray examination that obtains detailed pictures of the lower jawbone at various angles. A PA view is a frontal view of the mandible, and a Right Lateral Oblique view is an angled view of the right side of the mandible that provides a better image of the right body and angle of the mandible, the condylar process, the coronoid process, the teeth-bearing area, and surrounding structures. The high resolution of our advanced digital radiography systems allows us to produce clear, quality images for accurate evaluation of injuries to the mandibles, dental conditions, and disorders of the face and mouth at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy.

What is an X-Ray Mandible PA & Right Lateral Oblique View?

An X-Ray Mandible PA & Right Lateral Oblique is an imaging test that quickly, safely, and painlessly assesses the lower jaw bones. These views can be useful for doctors to get an idea of the alignment of the jaws, look for fractures, any other abnormalities in bone structure, and any changes that may have occurred due to trauma, infection, or other conditions that may have affected the mandible. This exam is often advised for individuals who have jaw pain, facial injury, swelling, trouble chewing, or who think their jaw is abnormal.

Common Reasons for an X-Ray Mandible PA & Right Lateral Oblique View

  • Jaw injury due to fall, accident, or trauma
  • Suspected mandible fracture
  • Persistent jaw pain or discomfort
  • Swelling around the lower face or jaw
  • Difficulty opening or closing the mouth
  • Evaluation of jaw alignment
  • Dental and bone assessment
  • Follow-up after jaw surgery or fracture treatment
