Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is a premier NABL & NABH Accredited Diagnostic Centre to book your X-Ray Orbit PA & Lateral Views. High-tech digital X-ray capabilities for producing Posteroanterior (PA) and Lateral images of the orbits (eye sockets) allow doctors to identify orbital fractures, foreign bodies, bone abnormalities, and other conditions in the eye area. Our highly qualified radiologists deliver accurate imaging under very low exposure of radiation and timely reporting that aids in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
About X-Ray Orbit PA & Lateral Views
X-ray Orbit PA & Lateral Views is a specific X-ray that takes detailed images of the eye sockets twice, from different angles. The Lateral view is a side view of the orbital structures, and the PA view is a frontal view. These views combined are going to be a reliable reference to check the orbital bones, the margin of the eye orbit, frontal bone, maxillary bones, zygomatic bones, and other structures around the face. At Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, we rely on cutting-edge digital radiography equipment that creates extremely detailed pictures for accurate diagnosis of injuries that persist in the orbit and other types of bone problems in the face area.
What is an X-Ray Orbit PA & Lateral Views?
An X-ray Orbit PA & Lateral Views is a painless, quick, and non-invasive imaging examination for assessment of the bones around the eyes. These views are useful for the physician to demonstrate the alignment of the bones and evaluate the presence of fractures, foreign bodies, and orbital structure abnormalities. This test is typically done if someone has trouble seeing out of one eye or any pain, swelling, or facial trauma affecting the eye area.
Common Reasons for an X-Ray Orbit PA & Lateral Views
Injury around the eye due to a fall, accident, or trauma
Suspected orbital fracture
Facial bone injury
Swelling or tenderness around the eyes
Suspected foreign body in or around the orbit
Persistent pain around the eye socket
Evaluation before or after orbital surgery
Assessment of facial bone abnormalities
Conditions Evaluated
Orbital Fractures
Detects fractures involving the orbital walls, including the floor, roof, medial, and lateral walls of the eye socket.
Foreign Body Detection
Helps identify radiopaque foreign objects present around the orbit.
Facial Bone Injuries
Evaluates associated injuries involving the zygomatic bone, maxilla, and surrounding facial structures.
Bone Abnormalities
Helps detect structural changes, lesions, or other abnormalities affecting the orbital bones.
Congenital Orbital Abnormalities
Evaluates developmental changes involving the eye socket and facial bones.
Post-Traumatic and Post-Surgical Changes
Monitors healing following fractures, orbital procedures, or facial surgeries.
Who Should Consider This X-Ray?

Test information: Fasting NOT needed
Reporting: Within 04 hours*
No fasting or special preparation is required for this X-ray examination.
Wear comfortable clothing and avoid jewellery, hairpins, spectacles (if removable), hearing aids, or any metallic objects around the head and face.
You may be asked to remove dentures, removable dental appliances, facial piercings, or other metallic items before the examination.
Inform the radiographer if you are pregnant or suspect you may be pregnant, as X-rays involve ionising radiation.
Bring your doctor's referral along with any previous X-rays, CT scans, MRI scans, dental imaging, or maxillofacial imaging reports for comparison.
Continue taking your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Inform the radiographer if you have recently sustained facial trauma, undergone facial or jaw surgery, or have metal implants or fixation plates in the facial bones.
If you have severe facial pain or difficulty remaining still, inform the staff before the examination.
Arrive at the diagnostic centre 15–20 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
The patient is positioned either sitting, standing, or lying on the X-ray table, depending on the radiographer's instructions.
Posteroanterior (PA) and Lateral Views of the orbits (eye sockets) are obtained to evaluate the orbital walls, frontal bone, zygomatic bones, maxilla, and surrounding facial structures.
These complementary views help assess orbital fractures, facial bone injuries, radiopaque foreign bodies, congenital abnormalities, and other bony conditions affecting the orbital region.
Proper head positioning is maintained to obtain clear visualisation of both eye sockets and adjacent facial bones.
You will be asked to remain completely still while each X-ray image is taken to ensure sharp, high-quality images.
Additional X-ray views may be obtained if required for a more comprehensive assessment.
The examination is quick, painless, non-invasive, and does not require contrast material.
The procedure usually takes 10–15 minutes.
Reports are generally available within 04 hours*.
