About X-Ray Right Scapula AP & Lateral Views
X-Ray Right Scapula AP & Lateral Views: A specialized X-ray exam that provides detailed imaging of the right shoulder blade at two different views. The Anteroposterior (AP) view shows a frontal picture of the scapula, and the Lateral view shows a side view. These views together give an overall picture of the body of the scapula, scapular spine, acromion process, coracoid process, glenoid cavity, shoulder joint, and other bones in the area. Advanced digital radiography systems provide high-resolution images at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, resulting in accurate evaluation of injuries to the scapula and musculoskeletal disorders.
What is an X-Ray Right Scapula AP & Lateral Views?
X-Ray Right Scapula AP & Lateral Views is an imaging test that looks at the bones and structures of the right shoulder blade and is quick, painless, and non-invasive. AP and lateral projections allow doctors to see the alignment of the bones, the presence of fractures, bone lesions, and bone changes following injury or other disease. This test is frequently indicated when someone is suffering from shoulder blade pain, swelling, trauma, and limited range of motion in the shoulder blade.
Common Reasons for an X-Ray Right Scapula AP & Lateral Views
Right shoulder or scapular injury following a fall or accident
Persistent pain around the shoulder blade
Suspected scapular fracture
Swelling or tenderness over the scapula
Difficulty moving the shoulder
Evaluation of bone abnormalities
Assessment of chronic shoulder pain
Follow-up after fracture treatment or surgery
Conditions Evaluated
Scapular Fractures
Detects fractures involving the body, neck, spine, acromion, and coracoid process of the scapula.
Bone Alignment Abnormalities
Evaluates changes in scapular alignment caused by trauma or injury.
Shoulder Joint Abnormalities
Assesses associated changes involving the glenoid cavity and shoulder joint structures.
Bone Lesions
Helps identify cysts, tumors, infections, or other abnormalities affecting the scapula.
Congenital Bone Abnormalities
Evaluates developmental abnormalities involving the shoulder blade.
Post-Traumatic and Post-Surgical Changes
Monitors healing following fractures, orthopedic procedures, or other treatments.

Test information: Fasting NOT needed
Reporting: Within 04 hours*
No fasting or special preparation is required for this X-ray examination.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the right shoulder and upper back. Avoid clothing with metal zippers, buttons, or metallic accessories around the shoulder region.
You may be asked to remove necklaces, earrings, shoulder braces, clothing with metal fasteners, or any removable metallic objects from the upper body before the examination.
Inform the radiographer if you are pregnant or suspect you may be pregnant, as X-rays involve ionising radiation.
Bring your doctor's referral along with any previous X-rays, CT scans, MRI scans, or orthopedic imaging reports of the shoulder or scapula for comparison.
Continue taking your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Inform the radiographer if you have recently sustained a shoulder injury, undergone shoulder surgery, or have metal implants, plates, screws, or joint replacement hardware in the shoulder region.
If you have severe shoulder pain or are unable to raise or position your arm comfortably, inform the staff before the examination so appropriate positioning assistance can be provided.
Arrive at the diagnostic centre 15–20 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
The patient is positioned either standing or sitting, depending on the radiographer's instructions and the patient's clinical condition.
Anteroposterior (AP) and Lateral Views of the right scapula (shoulder blade) are obtained to evaluate the body of the scapula, scapular spine, acromion, coracoid process, glenoid cavity, and surrounding bony structures.
These complementary views help assess scapular fractures, bone alignment abnormalities, shoulder injuries, bone lesions, congenital abnormalities, and other bony conditions affecting the scapula.
Proper positioning of the shoulder and arm is maintained to obtain clear visualisation of the entire scapula with minimal overlap from surrounding structures.
You will be asked to remain completely still while each X-ray image is taken to ensure sharp, high-quality images.
Additional X-ray views may be obtained if required for a more comprehensive assessment.
The examination is quick, painless, non-invasive, and does not require contrast material.
The procedure usually takes 10–15 minutes.
Reports are generally available within 04 hours*.
