Book an X-ray soft tissue Neck AP & lateral view at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, which is accredited by NABL and NABH. Our sophisticated digital X-ray technology captures detailed pictures of the soft structures of the neck, allowing doctors to assess abnormalities, infections, foreign objects, swelling, and more in the throat and neck. Our qualified radiologists deliver top-notch imaging services while also keeping radiation exposure to a minimum and reporting the images promptly, thus helping in accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning.
About X-Ray Soft Tissue Neck AP & Lateral Views
An X-Ray Soft Tissue Neck AP & Lateral Views is an Ultimate radiograph study that consists of an Anteroposterior (AP) (Front) and Lateral (Side) X-ray of the Neck. These views offer an overall view of the airway, pharynx, larynx, trachea, epiglottis, and adjacent soft tissues. The exam is usually done when there are swallowing problems, pain in the throat, swelling in the neck, or a broken or blocked airway is suspected. Advanced digital radiography systems are used at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, which allows us to obtain detailed high-resolution images for a more accurate diagnosis of neck soft tissue conditions.
What is an X-Ray Soft Tissue Neck AP & Lateral Views?
An X-ray soft tissue neck AP & lateral views is an X-ray that is quick, painless, and not invasive and is used to assess the soft tissues in the neck rather than the bones. It may be helpful for identifying swelling, soft tissue masses, foreign bodies, infections, and constrictions of the airway. Both AP and lateral views give the advantage of a more complete evaluation than one view alone.
Common Reasons for an X-Ray Soft Tissue Neck AP & Lateral Views
Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia)
Persistent sore throat
Neck swelling
Suspected foreign body in the throat
Noisy breathing or airway obstruction
Evaluation of enlarged adenoids
Assessment of neck infections
Follow-up after treatment
Conditions Evaluated
Airway Narrowing
Evaluates narrowing of the upper airway caused by swelling or other abnormalities.
Enlarged Adenoids
Assesses enlargement of the adenoid tissue, particularly in children.
Epiglottic Abnormalities
Helps evaluate swelling or other changes involving the epiglottis.
Foreign Bodies
Detects radiopaque foreign objects lodged in the throat or upper airway.
Soft Tissue Swelling
Identifies swelling caused by infection, inflammation, or trauma.
Neck Masses
Assesses certain soft tissue enlargements or abnormal shadows in the neck.

The patient is positioned standing or seated against the digital X-ray detector, depending on the radiologist's instructions and clinical condition.
An Anteroposterior (AP) View is first obtained to evaluate the neck soft tissues, airway, trachea, and surrounding structures from the front.
A Lateral View is then taken to assess the pharynx, larynx, epiglottis, adenoids, trachea, and other soft tissue structures from the side.
You may be asked to remain still and briefly hold your breath while each X-ray image is captured to prevent motion blur.
Additional views may be obtained if required by the radiologist for a more detailed evaluation.
The examination is quick, painless, non-invasive, and usually does not require contrast material.
The procedure generally takes 10–15 minutes.
Reports are usually available within 04 hours*.
The film of the X-ray is usually provided within 30 minutes of the scan.
