About X-Ray Soft Tissue Neck Lateral View

X-ray soft tissue Neck Lateral view is a special type of X-ray to see the side view of the neck with clear visualization of the airway, pharynx, larynx, epiglottis, trachea, adenoids, and the soft tissues surrounding them. It is often done when a person has trouble swallowing, cannot breathe well, has pain in the throat, swelling in the neck, or thinks that something is stuck in their throat. Here at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, we employ the use of state-of-the-art digital radiography systems to capture images of the high-quality that allow us to accurately evaluate neck soft tissue disorders.

What is an X-Ray Soft Tissue Neck Lateral View?

An X-ray of the neck (lateral view) of soft tissue is an imaging test of the soft tissue that is quick and painless, and doesn't use X-rays of the bones. It is used to help the doctor recognise a narrowed airway, large adenoids, swollen soft tissues, infection, and radiopaque foreign bodies.

Common Reasons for an X-Ray Soft Tissue Neck Lateral View

  • Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia)
  • Persistent sore throat
  • Neck swelling
  • Noisy breathing or airway obstruction
  • Suspected foreign body in the throat
  • Evaluation of enlarged adenoids
  • Assessment of upper airway infections
  • Follow-up after treatment

Conditions Evaluated

Enlarged Adenoids

Evaluates enlargement of the adenoid tissue, particularly in children with breathing or snoring problems.

Airway Narrowing

Assesses narrowing of the upper airway caused by swelling or structural abnormalities.

Epiglottic Abnormalities

Helps evaluate swelling or other changes affecting the epiglottis.

Foreign Bodies

Detects radiopaque foreign objects lodged in the throat or upper airway.

Soft Tissue Swelling

Identifies swelling caused by infection, inflammation, or trauma.

Neck Masses

Assesses abnormal soft tissue shadows that may require further evaluation.
