DEXA FOREARM-LEFT

₹1500

Seek a DEXA Forearm-Left scan at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, a NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre providing advanced diagnostic imaging services. DEXA Forearm-Left is a bone mineral density test that measures bone density at a selected site in the left forearm. The examination is used to assess mineral bone density in the forearm and can be especially helpful in some cases where there is difficulty in measuring the mineral bone density at other sites, or when a doctor requires bone health information. At our centre, our aim is to deliver a reliable result, using the latest bone densitometry technology and tests, that will complement the clinical assessment and management of bone health.

About DEXA Forearm-Left

DEXA Forearm-Left is a special type of bone density test used to determine the bone mineral in certain bones of the left forearm. It is frequently used as an aid in the evaluation of possible osteoporosis, decreased bone mineral density, and fracture risk related to abnormally thin bones.

Forearm DEXA might be warranted in cases where the hip or spine cannot be reliably assessed or if other clinical parameters are known to influence the results from these sites, or when the ordering physician requests the measurement. The examination is undertaken at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy using suitable protocols of bone densitometry to aid in assessing bone health.

What is DEXA Forearm-Left?

DEXA Forearm-Left involves taking X-rays of the forearm at low dose with two strengths to estimate bone mineral density of a selected area on the left forearm. Bone density is compared to reference values to aid in determining normal or decreased bone density. The testing is non-invasive and generally does not involve injections. These results are used in conjunction with the medical history and factors such as fracture history, medications, and other risk factors to determine a diagnosis by a doctor.

Common Reasons for DEXA Forearm-Left

  • Suspected low bone density: Assesses bone mineral density when a doctor suspects weakened bones.
  • Hip or spine measurement limitations: May be useful when these sites cannot be measured or interpreted reliably.
  • Monitoring bone health: May help assess changes in bone mineral density over time when forearm measurement is clinically appropriate.
  • Certain medical conditions: Supports bone density evaluation in patients with conditions that may affect calcium balance or bone metabolism.
  • Long-term medication assessment: May be requested for patients using certain medicines that can affect bone health.
  • Additional skeletal assessment: Provides another measurement site when recommended as part of a broader bone health evaluation.

Conditions Evaluated

Osteopenia

Osteopenia is defined as bones that are below normal, but not dense enough to qualify as osteoporosis. The interpretation is based on the age, history, and other risk factors of the patient.

Increased Fragility Fracture Risk

Fractures due to fairly minor trauma may occur due to reduced bone density. DEXA is a helpful parameter for a clinician who is considering bone strength in conjunction with other clinical risk factors.

Metabolic Bone Disorders

The examination can be of secondary value to bone health assessment in some metabolic diseases which influence bone mineralisation or mineral calcium metabolism. Further diagnostic investigations and assessment may be required to determine the cause.

Follow-Up of Bone Mineral Density

If forearm measurement is deemed appropriate, repeat DEXA scans can be used to track changes in BMD from one scan to the next and as a marker for treatment response.

Why Choose Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy?

Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is an NABL & NABH Accredited diagnostic center offering a crucial diagnostic service in the radiology, pathology, and nuclear medicine practice. Our centre takes measures to ensure reliable results and clear diagnostic reporting using modern diagnostic technology, appropriate testing protocols, and experienced specialists. The centre focuses on patient comfort, radiation safety, appropriate bone densitometry protocols, effective coordination, and clear diagnostic reporting.

Book Your DEXA Forearm-Left

If the doctor has suggested they should use a DEXA Forearm-Left scan to check bone mineral density, to help assess possible osteoporosis, or to monitor bone health, contact Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy to find out when they can book an appointment, the preparation process, and when the scan can be reported back.

Test information: Usually, no fasting is required.

Reporting: Within 24 hours*

  • Fasting is usually not required for an NCCT Neck & Chest scan.
  • Inform the radiology team about any previous surgery, injury, or treatment involving the neck or chest.
  • Tell the team if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, as CT uses X-rays.
  • Share details of your current medicines, allergies, and any relevant medical conditions.
  • Bring previous CT scans, X-rays, MRI scans, and other relevant medical reports, if available.
  • Inform the team if you have difficulty breathing, swallowing, or lying flat.
  • Remove necklaces, earrings, chains, and other metallic objects around the neck and chest before the scan, as instructed.
  • Wear comfortable clothing without metal fasteners, if possible.
  • Follow the staff’s positioning and breathing instructions during the examination.
  • Remain still during image acquisition to help obtain clear images.
