Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is accredited to NABL and NABH is a modern Radiology & diagnostic imaging facility with state-of-the-art technology where you can book 'X-Ray Both Elbow Joints LAT View' with the doctor for the best diagnostic image report. This exam gives pictures of the side (lateral) views of the two elbow joints, which are useful for doctors to evaluate the alignment of the bones, fractures, abnormalities in the joints, and changes in the overall bone structure.
About X-Ray Both Elbow Joints LAT View
X-Ray Both Elbow Joints LAT View is a diagnostic X-ray image to examine the right and left elbows. Useful for visualizing the bones and the joint spaces around both elbows, it can also be helpful to detect injuries, degenerative changes, and other irregularities. This examination might be recommended if the patient complains of elbow pain, swelling, tenderness, and/or difficulty in moving the elbow, or if the examination seems clinically necessary to compare the two elbow joints.
What is X-Ray Both Elbow Joints LAT View?
An X-ray imaging technique uses a specially designed machine to take X-rays of the internal structure of the body for diagnostic purposes. Lateral view Elbow is placed to the side with the X-ray beam giving the beam of X-rays a side-on view of the elbow. The lateral view demonstrates the distal humerus, proximal radius and ulna, and their alignment at the elbow joint. The doctor may request both elbows to have an X-ray done so that the doctor can make sure to compare both joints.
Common Reasons for X-Ray Both Elbow Joints LAT View
Suspected Fracture: Elbow injuries following a fall/accident/direct trauma.
Elbows: Joint Swelling, Swelling/tenderness around elbows.
Restricted Movement: Examining for problems with elbow movements up and down.
The elbow will be assessed, and all sports injuries, falls, or impacts to the elbow will be evaluated.
Joint Alignment: Assessment of the position and alignment of bones of the elbow joints.
Comparative Assessments: radiographs of both elbows for comparison when clinically indicated.
Follow-up Imaging: Following up on treatment imaging of some fractures or joint abnormalities.
Conditions Evaluated
Elbow Fractures
X-rays can help identify fractures involving the distal humerus, proximal radius, and proximal ulna. They can also display misaligned bones or the misalignment itself.
Joint Alignment Abnormalities
The lateral view allows the relationship between the bones of each elbow to be evaluated and might show any dislocations or other alignment problems.
Degenerative Joint Changes
On X-rays, the features associated with osteoarthritis appear, such as narrowing of the joint space, formation of bony spurs, and changes at the edges of the bones.
Joint Effusion
Some are indirect signs of fluid in the elbow joint that can be seen on lateral radiography and may be helpful in suggesting an underlying condition or injury of the affected joint.
Bone Lesions and Structural Changes
At examination, lesions with bone damage, abnormal growths, or other structural alterations may be noted, and may require additional clinical appraisal of the lesions.
Post-Treatment Assessment
After treatment or surgery, follow-up imaging can help to determine how well the fracture, joint position, and healing are progressing.

Test information: Fasting NOT needed
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
Fasting is not required for this examination.
Wear comfortable clothing with sleeves that can be easily rolled up or adjusted to expose both elbows.
Remove watches, bracelets, rings, or other metallic objects around the elbow areas before the examination.
Inform the radiology staff if you are pregnant or there is a possibility of pregnancy.
Carry the doctor's prescription, previous X-ray images, relevant imaging reports, and medical records, if available.
Inform the radiology staff about any recent injury, surgery, swelling, or difficulty moving either elbow.
Follow the radiographer's instructions for positioning both arms and remain still while the images are being taken.
The patient is positioned for the lateral (LAT) view of both elbow joints.
Each elbow is positioned carefully, usually with the elbow bent as comfortably as possible, according to the radiographer's instructions and the patient's condition.
The X-ray equipment and detector are aligned to capture the required lateral view of each elbow.
The patient is asked to remain still while each image is taken to avoid blurring.
X-ray beams pass through the elbow regions to produce images showing the distal humerus, proximal radius, proximal ulna, and joint alignment.
The radiographer checks the images for clarity and may take additional images if required.
The radiologist reviews the images to assess fractures, joint alignment, degenerative changes, joint effusion signs, and other visible abnormalities.
