Get Digital OPG X-Ray from Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL & NABH Accredited Diagnostic Centre, and the best Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging Services. This is a special dental imaging examination that encompasses a panoramic view of the teeth and jaws (OPG) and a cephalometric image (CEPH), which aids dentists and orthodontists in determining alignment of the teeth and jaws, orthodontic treatment needs, and facial growth patterns.
Digital OPG CEPH is a dental imaging service that can typically be applied when planning and evaluation are needed in oral care, especially in orthodontics. Two complementary perspectives of X-ray images are combined: A standard cephalogram (CEPH), which is an X-ray of the head and face in a standard lateral head perspective, and an orthopantomogram (OPG), which is an X-ray of the teeth and jaws in a panoramic view. In a way, all of these radiographic images help your dentist better evaluate the relationship of your jaw, tooth growth, facial proportions, and skeletal relationships. They can also be useful in some cases, including the diagnosis and examination of any type of bite problem, or to monitor orthodontic treatment when clinically indicated.
OPG (Orthopantomogram): A dental panoramic radiograph to look at the upper and lower jaws, most of the teeth, and supporting structures. It helps in the analysis of affected dental tissues, development of teeth, anomalies of jaw bone, and other oral abnormalities.
CEPH (Cephalometric X-ray): a type of lateral X-ray of the head to show the relationship of the teeth, jaws, and facial bones. It can be used for orthodontic dimensions/assessment of facial growth and skeletal patterns.
A thorough evaluation carried out jointly by OPG and CEPH provides complementary information for diagnosis of the tooth and base for orthodontic treatment planning. The exams still use ionizing radiation, and imaging should be considered based on clinical indications.
The OPG and CEPH images provide complementary information about the teeth, jaws, and skeletal relationships. They help in the identification and analysis of frequent bite irregularities and help orthodontists plan treatment.
The cephalometric image provides the basic “view” of the facial skeleton, and the relative position of the maxilla and mandible can be assessed. The examinations can detect whether an issue with tooth alignment is a problem, or whether the problem is caused by discrepancies between the teeth and the jaws.
Many of the teeth (in the case of impacted wisdom teeth), and where they are located and growing, may be visible in the panoramic OPG image. Many of the teeth, including impacted wisdom teeth, and their location and growth pattern may be visible in the OPG image. This information could be important in a future decision about further assessment and/or treatment.
OPG will provide an overall picture of the development and condition of the teeth. It can be helpful if a tooth is missing, if there are missing or unerupted teeth, or if a tooth is abnormally positioned, which may affect dental/adjustable treatment.
The panoramic X-ray might show possible bone or tooth problems that may indicate certain signs of lesions or bone resorption. Diagnosis might need to be confirmed by further investigation or imaging tests.
The information for choosing and planning orthodontics can be provided by both OPG and CEPH. They may also be used as reference images to compare them to future images, if indicated.
Some patients attending for correction surgery for the jaw may be undergoing assessment to help plan for an eventual corrective surgery with this type of images. Some patients attending for the correction of their jaw may be undergoing an assessment which helps to make a better plan for a corrective jaw surgery in the future together with some of the above images. May need additional imaging depending on clinical question.
Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is an NABL/NABH Certified Diagnostic centre covering all Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Pathology services. Our diagnostic imaging skills are focused on the development of optimal imaging protocols, superior imaging quality, patient comfort, and reliable reporting. Patients are helped to navigate the examination process in order to achieve a smooth and efficient imaging experience.
If your dentist/orthodontist has advised you to have an X-Ray Digital OPG CEPH, please request your appointment at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy. Bring your prescription or any previous dental X-rays, cephalometric films, or previous reports (if any). The images may give your dentist more information about your teeth, jaws, and relationships between skeletal structures or face and teeth. This might help him or her determine whether more treatment is necessary.
