X-RAY OF BOTH HIP JOINTS AP & LAT VIEW

₹500

Take a radiology and diagnostic imaging X-ray scan of both your hip joints (AP & LAT View) at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, which is an NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre providing advanced radiology and diagnostic imaging services. This examination gives an anteroposterior (AP) and lateral (LAT) film view of the hip joints, which can help to identify bone structure and joint alignment, fractures, degenerative changes, and any other abnormalities visible on the X-ray of the hip joints. A scan of both hips can be useful as a guide to help with assessing if you're in pain, if you're struggling to move them, if you're having difficulties getting about, and if you are suspected of having a joint problem.

About X-Ray Both Hip Joints AP & LAT View

X-Ray Both Hip Joints AP & LAT View is a diagnostic radiograph to assess bony structures in both hips. Different views are used in the examination to complement the information about the femoral heads, femoral necks, acetabula, and other structures around the pelvis that are in the picture. The test might be considered if someone is having pain in either hip, problems walking around, stiffness, or problems after an injury. It can also be used to explore a suspected case of arthritis, fractured bones, different alignment of joints, and some specific cases of bone conditions.

What is X-Ray Both Hip Joints AP & LAT View?

X-ray imaging is a small, low-level, deliberate dose of ionizing radiation to create images of the bones and joints. The AP and lateral projections are taken from different angles that allow the radiologist to see the hip joints from all sides and determine the character and impact of their relationship.

  • AP View (Anteroposterior): Provides a front-to-back projection of the hip joints and helps assess the femoral heads, femoral necks, acetabula, and visible joint spaces.
  • LAT View (Lateral): Provides a side projection of the relevant hip region and offers additional information about the shape, alignment, and position of the bones.

Common Reasons for X-Ray Both Hip Joints AP & LAT View

  • The following are the most common causes for seeing both hip joints at the AP & LAT views on the X-ray:
  • Hip Pain: Assesses pain in both or one hip, when tired or inexplicable.
  • Fall accidents, or direct impact that injures the hip/pelvis, should be assessed and treated as injury/trauma.
  • Suspected Fracture: Screening for suspected fracture with imaging of the femoral head, femoral neck, and surrounding bones.
  • Difficulty Walking: Problems with standing, walking, or weight-bearing due to pain or reduced mobility.
  • Suspected arthritis: An evaluation of visible arthritis, which includes the presence of degenerative changes.
  • Joint Stiffness: Assessment of bony abnormalities that could be causing limited hip mobility.
  • Joint Alignment Assessment: Joint Angle Evaluation of the femur-head/acetabulum relationship.
  • Bilateral Hip Symptoms: Evaluation of both hip symptoms, including comparison of the involvement of the visible changes in the joint.
  • Bone Abnormalities: Examination of abnormal structures and/or lesions of particular concern that are detected on clinical examination.
  • Follow-Up with Results: Treatment of fractures, joint alignment or other abnormal conditions diagnosed previously.
  • Preoperative Assessment: Radiographic assessment to assist in planning certain hip procedures which are elected by the treating doctor.
  • Persistent Symptoms: If hip pain persists and a bony or joint etiology is suspected, further assessment should take place.

Conditions Evaluated

Osteoarthritis and Degenerative Joint Disease

The examination may reveal joint-space narrowing, osteophytes (bone spurs), changes in bone contours, and other features associated with osteoarthritis.

Hip Joint Alignment and Dislocation

The images assist with an evaluation of the location of each femoral head in relation to its acetabulum. If present, they may demonstrate some alignment abnormalities or dislocation. Correct evaluation of alignment after trauma is vital and may be significant in the evaluation of some selected structural hip disorders.

Joint-Space and Bone-Surface Changes

Radiographs give information about the 'visible' joint spaces and the bone surface. Narrowing and other changes or irregularities, or bony outgrowths, could indicate the presence of degenerative or other joint-related diseases. These results may help the treating physician decide if additional evaluation and/or treatment is needed.

Bone Lesions and Structural Abnormalities

X-rays might show certain patterns of Bone Lesions and Structural Abnormalities, abnormal bone shapes, or other bone anomalies associated with the hip area. These can occur for various reasons and may need further imaging studies and/or clinical examinations to determine what is happening.

Follow-Up of Hip Injuries and Surgery

They can be repeated to help monitor fractures or sometimes used following certain surgeries to help check alignment and healing of the bone. If existing images are compared with previous investigations, it can assist the treating physician to make a time-course evaluation.

Why Choose Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy?

Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is an NABL & NABH Accredited Diagnostic Centre specializing in the field of Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Pathology. It's our commitment to providing the optimal examination protocol, highest quality radiographic image procedures, professional competence, and patient-focused care that is the hallmark of our diagnostic imaging practice. Our goal is to give accurate and trustworthy information on the vision to assist our referring surgeons to assess the condition of the hip, decide on a treatment plan, and follow back specific abnormalities.

Book Your X-Ray Both Hip Joints AP & LAT View

Please contact Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy for appointment information and availability if you have an X-Ray Both Hip Joints AP & LAT View. Where available, make sure to bring any prior hip X-rays, CT scans, MRI, or medical records and/or previous medical paperwork for comparison and evaluation. Seek urgent medical assessment if, after falling, you experience severe pain in your hip and can't bear any weight on it, or if you notice any deformity. If it causes a lot of pain, don't put the hip in a forced position.

Test information: Usually, no fasting is required.

Reporting: Within 24 hours*

  • Fasting is usually not required for an X-ray of both hip joints.
  • Bring your doctor's prescription and any previous hip X-rays, CT scans, MRI reports, or relevant medical records.
  • Remove metal objects, jewellery, belts, or clothing accessories around the hip and pelvic area as instructed by the radiology staff.
  • Inform the radiology staff if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.
  • Tell the staff if you have severe hip pain, a recent fall or injury, difficulty walking, or trouble bearing weight.
  • Follow the positioning instructions provided by the radiology staff. Do not force either hip or leg into a position that causes severe pain.
  • If a fracture is suspected after an injury, avoid unnecessary movement and seek prompt medical assessment.
