Contact Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy for the X-Ray Rib Oblique View facility, an NABL & NABH Accredited Diagnostic Centre with cutting-edge Radiology & Advanced diagnostic imaging services. A specific X-ray view taken of the ribs from a different angle that enables the doctor to look at a variety of abnormalities that can occur in the rib cage, such as fractures, rib cage injuries, bone abnormalities, and other abnormalities of the rib cage.
About X-Ray Rib Oblique View
X-ray view of the ribs done from an oblique position. An oblique orientation enables to better distinguish some of the overlapping rib constructions and can improve the visualization of some components of the rib cage. Is often used following a chest injury, fall or accident, and occasionally in cases of localized pain, tenderness, and/or difficulty breathing or movements of the chest.
What is an X-ray Rib Oblique View?
In an X-ray machine, a small amount of a special form of energy called ionizing radiation is used to create images of the parts of the body. In the oblique position, the patient's body is rotated at an angle to the X-ray beam, offering a different angle of the ribs. This projection is used to check the contour of the ribs, bone structure, and alignment that are visible. The doctor may also request additional rib/chest views depending on clinical need to get a better view.
Common Reasons for X-Ray Rib Oblique View
Suspected Rib Fractures: evaluation of potential rib fracture following a fall, accident, or impact.
Localised Rib Pain: Assessment of rib pain that is felt in a localised area of the chest wall.
Assessment for possible rib injuries which follow contact sports and/or strenuous physical activity.
Breathing Related Discomfort: Questioning of increases in rib pain with breathing, coughing, and movement.
Bone Abnormalities: Exam for any observable bone abnormalities or other bone structure changes (hyperplasia).
Follow-On Imaging: Given when selected ribs are being monitored after treatment for response to the treatment (advised).
Conditions Evaluated
Rib Fractures
In the oblique view, fractures of specific parts of the rib may be better shown due to reduced overlap from an angled view.
Rib Deformities
The exam can identify if the ribs are abnormal, may show abnormalities in the ribs' alignment, or if there are any abnormal structures that can also be visualized.
Chest Wall Injuries
It is suspected that rib X-ray imaging can be useful in assessing bone injuries following crush injury or trauma to the chest wall.
Bone Lesions
Some rib structural abnormalities, such as bone abnormalities, can be seen on X-ray and could require further assessment.
Rib Alignment Abnormalities
On the oblique projection, another more detailed image of the ribs is obtained that might help with assessing certain structural changes better observed on this view than on other projections.
Associated Chest Complications
A chest X-ray or other appropriate imaging may be recommended to assess complications of rib injuries, such as pneumothorax or pleural abnormalities. An oblique rib view alone is not sufficient to reliably evaluate these complications.

Fasting is not required for this examination.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the chest and rib area.
Remove jewellery, chains, or other metallic objects around the chest before the examination.
Inform the radiology staff if you have any possibility of pregnancy.
Carry the doctor's prescription, previous X-ray images, relevant imaging reports, and medical records, if available.
Inform the radiology staff about any recent chest injury, surgery, localized rib pain, or difficulty breathing.
If you experience pain while moving, coughing, or taking a deep breath, inform the radiographer before positioning.
Follow the radiographer's instructions regarding body rotation and positioning during the examination.
The patient is positioned for the required oblique view of the ribs.
The radiographer gently rotates the patient's body to the prescribed angle to obtain an angled view of the rib cage.
The X-ray equipment and detector are aligned to include the required rib region in the imaging field.
The patient may be asked to take a deep breath or hold their breath briefly, depending on the imaging requirements.
The patient is asked to remain still while the X-ray image is captured to avoid blurring.
A controlled amount of X-ray radiation passes through the chest to produce images of the ribs from an oblique angle.
The radiographer checks the image quality and may take additional views if required.
The radiologist reviews the images to assess rib fractures, deformities, alignment abnormalities, bone lesions, and other visible structural changes.
