Get your X-rays of the Right Thigh AP & LAT View at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL & NABH Accredited Diagnostic Centre that provides radiology and diagnostic imaging services. This examination takes a picture of both the front and side of the right thigh, looking at the femur, the long bone running from the hip to the knee. The two projections give complementary views and are useful for determining if a fracture, alignment, or other bony abnormalities are visible. The femur is important for carrying the body weight and is crucial for standing, walking, and leg movement. The AP and lateral X-ray images help the radiologist also view part of the surrounding bone that is captured in the X-ray image of the femur. This examination may be suggested after injury, if there has been thigh pain that needs to be evaluated, and when a health care professional wants to evaluate a recognized bone problem.
X-Ray Right Thigh AP & LAT View is a medical X-ray of the femur (thigh bone) on the right leg from two different views. The AP view is oriented from front to back of the bone, and the lateral view is oriented towards the side of the bone. The two views can be used together to give a better representation of the alignment of the femur, the contour of the femur, and a better picture of the integrity of the femur than either view alone. The exam can detect many fractures, abnormal bones, and some abnormalities of the visible parts of the femur. This procedure is essentially quick and painless. The number and placement of images vary according to the clinical indication and the radiology protocol. In cases where the hip/knee joint area may be involved, other specific views may be necessary.
An X-ray uses a controlled amount of ionising radiation to produce images of internal structures, particularly bones. In this examination, two projections are obtained:
The two views enable the radiologist to evaluate the shape, alignment, and continuity of the right femur. They can also show changes in the bones that can be seen and/or visible bones that have healed after a fracture. X-rays can generally only be used to examine the bones, and can not give a good image of muscles, tendons, nerves, or other soft tissues. When symptoms are indicative of soft-tissue injury or an abnormal condition that is not seen by X-ray, additional evaluation might be warranted.
These two views will complement each other and give information about the alignment and shape of the femur. They can assist in the diagnosis of some deformities and/or changes in the contours of the bones or displacement and injury.
The images may show some abnormalities of the bones. Further investigations might be indicated if a lesion is not adequately characterized or to establish the cause of a lesion.
Depending on their appearance and location, additional abnormalities can be demonstrated in the examination of the femur. The findings should be viewed and understood in the context of the symptoms, examination and any other investigations carried out.
Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy offers radiology and diagnostic imaging services focused on the care of the patient, proper imaging technique, and image quality. Our centre also provides pathology laboratory and special nuclear medicine equipment. They are supported by skilled trainers who provide advice and guidance during the examination on positioning and proper use of radiation safety equipment. Imaging findings need to be taken into account along with the clinical presentation and history within the context of the referral clinical evaluation.
When your health care provider recommended an AP & LAT of your RIGHT THIGH X-ray, contact Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy and ask them about appointment availability. If you have severe thigh pain, there is visible deformity, or you can't stand or put weight on the leg on which it happened, get urgent medical evaluation.
