Book your X-ray T-Tube Cholangiogram test at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an NABL and NABH accredited diagnostic centre that offers advanced radiology services. It is a fluoroscopic process that is used to assess the bile ducts with the use of contrast introduced into an existing T-Tube. This test helps doctors detect obstructions and assesses the passage of bile present in the intestine.
About X-Ray T-Tube Cholangiogram
X-Ray T-Tube Cholangiogram is a special type of x-ray, it usually is performed in patients after any of the surgery to the bile duct was performed and a tube is inserted into the duct to form a 'T' shape. To visualize the bile ducts, it uses contrast material, which is injected through a tube called a T-tube. Describes the biliary system in detail and the progress of the contrast into the biliary system and any abnormal area of the biliary system.
What is X-Ray T-Tube Cholangiogram?
A drainage tube (T-tube) may be inserted into the common bile duct after several surgical procedures. It can also be used for the drainage of bile and to provide postsurgical access for evaluation of the biliary system. A T-tube is filled with contrast during a "T-tube cholangiogram" in accordance with proper medical supervision. X-ray imaging (fluoroscopy) is used to see the bile ducts and to track the motion of the contrast material. The test helps evaluate bile duct system patency and whether the contrast flows into the intestine without leakage.
Common Reasons for X-Ray T-Tube Cholangiogram
Evaluation of the bile duct for Residual Bile Duct Stones After Surgery: To check for stones remaining in the bile duct after surgery.
Bile Leakage: To examine for possible bile leakage from the biliary tract.
Biliary Drainage Evaluation: An evaluation for contrast to pass into the bile ducts.
Bile Duct Narrowing: To see if there is any narrowing or constriction of the bile passages.
Assessment before T-tube removal: To evaluate bile duct patency and contrast drainage before the treating surgeon decides whether the tube can be safely removed.
Conditions Evaluated
Retained Common Bile Duct Stones
The examination may demonstrate filling defects within the common bile duct or intrahepatic bile ducts that could represent retained stones. Further evaluation may be required to confirm their nature.
Bile Duct Obstruction
T-tube cholangiography can be helpful to see where the radiopaque material goes within the bile ducts and can give an idea of how much the flow is obstructed or not being picked up equally.
Biliary Strictures
The test may be used to assess whether the bile duct is narrowed, and it may also identify the location and extent of the problem.
Bile Leakage
The examination may help identify contrast leakage from the biliary tract, including leakage near a surgical connection (biliary anastomosis), when present.
Biliary Tract Anatomy
The examination will get images of the biliary passages, which will give the appearance, continuity, and drainage pattern of the biliary passages.
Postoperative Biliary Complications
Postoperative complications may be determined with T-tube cholangiography, and useful information for future clinical management may be obtained.
Why Choose Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy?
Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is a NABL and NABH Certified Diagnostic Centre providing cutting-edge service in the field of Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Pathology. Our imaging services involve patient safety, patient support in the field of radiology, appropriate imaging procedures, reliable diagnostic reporting, and qualified radiology personnel. The aim is to ensure that diagnostic procedures and tests for patients who need such tests will be carried out in an easy and coordinated way.
Book Your X-Ray T-Tube Cholangiogram
If your surgeon has ordered an X-ray Cholangiogram (T-Tube) to be administered, please inquire with Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy about the availability of the Cholangiogram and scheduling. Make sure to come with your prescription, your previous surgical history, imaging reports, and other medical documents. The examination requires an existing, appropriately placed T-tube. It should be performed under the supervision of qualified medical and radiology personnel.
Test information: Fasting for 4–6 hours is generally required.
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
Fasting for 4–6 hours is generally required before the examination. Follow the specific fasting instructions provided by your doctor or radiology team.
Bring your doctor's prescription, previous imaging reports, surgical records, and relevant medical documents.
Inform the radiology team about your recent bile duct surgery, current medical condition, and any complications following surgery.
Inform the doctor about any known allergy or previous reaction to contrast material.
Share details of your current medications and any other medical conditions with the medical team.
Do not stop prescribed medicines unless your doctor specifically advises you to do so.
Ensure that the T-tube is already in place and inform the team if there is any pain, leakage, blockage, or unusual drainage around the tube.
Do not manipulate, clamp, flush, or remove the T-tube unless instructed by the treating surgeon or medical team.
Inform the medical team if you are pregnant or suspect you may be pregnant.
You will be asked to lie on the X-ray examination table, and the radiology team will position you appropriately.
The existing T-tube will be checked by the qualified medical team before the examination.
The area around the tube will be prepared, and contrast material will be introduced carefully through the T-tube under medical supervision.
Fluoroscopy, which provides real-time X-ray images, will be used to observe the movement of contrast through the bile ducts.
Images will be captured to assess the biliary passages, including the presence of any filling defects, narrowing, obstruction, or contrast leakage.
The radiologist will also assess whether contrast passes through the bile duct into the intestine.
You may be asked to remain still or change position slightly to obtain the required images.
After the examination, the medical team will manage the T-tube according to the treating surgeon's instructions.
A radiologist will review the images and prepare the diagnostic report.
