Lung PET CT is the combination of both Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT), is a non-invasive imaging technique used to identify abnormalities in the lungs. This advanced diagnostic procedure utilizes a radioactive tracer—commonly 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG), a glucose-based compound—to highlight areas of unusual metabolic activity. Lung PET-CT scans helps in comprehensive scanning of the lungs and helps to detect the lung cancers at the early stage. By merging PET which give the information at the cellular level with the CT scan, which give the information at the anatomical level. Combination of these two methods can gives us the detailed information about the lung disease and cancers.

The Lung PET CT scan give the details of the cancer at the metabolic level of cells. Radioactive tracer 18F-FDG commonly used in the process is injected in the patient through IV. Patient is allowed to wait for 1 hour till the tracer reaches to all part of the body. After that patient is taken in the scanner, with a bed attached with the scanner.
