Our X-Ray Left Ankle LAT View service will produce a lateral image of the left ankle bone. We provide specialist Radiology and diagnostic imaging services at our NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre, Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy. This test will provide your doctor with information regarding the positioning of the bones in the left ankle. This can also help identify any fractures, joint abnormalities, and other structural changes that may be causing pain, swelling, and/or reduced mobility in the ankle.
About X-Ray Left Ankle LAT View
An X-Ray Left Ankle LAT View is an imaging test that will produce a lateral image of the bones and joints in the left ankle. This will provide your doctor with information regarding the positioning of the bones in the ankle. It can also identify any visible abnormalities. The lateral image will help provide useful information regarding the distal tibia, distal fibula, talus, and other bones. This test can help provide information regarding any injury or can be used in conjunction with other views.
What is X-Ray Left Ankle LAT View?
An X-ray uses a small amount of ionising radiation to create images of the bones and joints. This can provide useful information on the anatomy of your bones, positioning of your joints, and relationships between your bones. It can help identify any fractures, dislocations, bone spurs, and abnormalities. Your doctor may want to have additional views depending on your symptoms and suspected diagnosis.
Common Reasons for X-Ray Left Ankle LAT View
Ankle Pain: Helps investigate bony causes of persistent or unexplained ankle discomfort.
Suspected Fracture: Assesses for bone injuries following a fall, accident, or direct impact.
Ankle Swelling: Helps identify associated bony abnormalities after an injury.
Joint Dislocation: Evaluates the alignment of the ankle joint and surrounding bones.
Sports-Related Injuries: May help assess ankle bone injuries associated with running, jumping, or sudden twisting.
Restricted Movement: Helps investigate structural abnormalities that may affect ankle movement.
Bony Spurs: May reveal bony projections around the ankle joint.
Follow-Up Imaging: Can help monitor the alignment and healing of a previously diagnosed fracture when recommended by a doctor.
Conditions Evaluated
Joint Dislocations and Alignment Abnormalities
Helps identify any relationship between bones. Can identify any dislocations, subluxations, and abnormalities.
Degenerative Joint Changes
Can help to identify some signs of osteoarthritis such as bone spurs and changes to the joint space.
Bony Spurs and Bone Projections
The lateral view can help identify some bone spurs around the ankle joint. These may need to be correlated with your symptoms.
Traumatic Bone Injuries
If there has been an injury to the ankle, this can help identify any fractures or visible abnormalities.
Bone Deformities and Structural Abnormalities
The image may reveal abnormalities in bone shape or alignment that affect the ankle joint and may warrant further evaluation.
Why Choose Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy?

Our imaging services will ensure the correct tests are performed, high-quality imaging is produced, is interpreted by experienced radiologists, and we provide patient-focused care. We want to ensure you have a comfortable and efficient diagnostic process with reliable reports.
Book Your X-Ray Left Ankle LAT View
If your doctor has recommended an X-Ray Left Ankle LAT View, you can schedule your examination at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy. This study helps evaluate the bony structures and alignment of the left ankle as part of your clinical assessment.
Test information: Usually, no fasting is required.
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
Usually, no fasting is required before the examination.
Bring your doctor's prescription and any previous ankle X-ray images or reports, if available.
Remove footwear, ankle jewellery, and any metal objects around the left ankle before imaging.
Inform the radiology staff if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.
Tell the staff about any recent injury, severe pain, swelling, or difficulty moving the ankle.
If a fracture is suspected or you cannot bear weight on the foot after an injury, avoid unnecessary movement and do not force yourself to stand or walk. Inform the staff before positioning.
The patient is positioned to obtain a lateral (LAT) X-ray view of the left ankle.
The left ankle is placed in the required position, and the radiology staff ensures that the area being examined is properly aligned.
The patient is asked to keep the ankle still while the X-ray image is taken.
A brief X-ray exposure produces an image of the ankle bones and joint alignment from the side.
The radiologist reviews the image for visible fractures, dislocations, alignment abnormalities, bone spurs, and other structural changes.
Additional X-ray views or further imaging may be recommended if the findings require further evaluation.
