X-RAY LUMBAR SPINE AP VIEW STANDING

₹500

Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is an NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre specializing in Advanced Radiology & diagnostic imaging services. In this examination, an anteroposterior view image of the lumbosacral region taken while standing can help the doctor determine if the spine is aligned properly and if there are any abnormalities of the bones that may be contributing to pain, stiffness, and/or postural symptoms in the lower back.

About X-Ray Lumbar Spine AP View Standing

In the standing position, the radiologist is able to check the body weight alignment of the spine. When taken as an exam, this can be used to see whether the spine is altered or damaged, if it's positioned incorrectly, and even if there's any other abnormality present in the bones of the lumbar spine. It can also yield valuable data in evaluating back issues related to posture problems.

What is X-Ray Lumbar Spine, AP View Standing?

X-rays use brief exposures of ionizing radiation to get a series of low doses of radiation and image the bones and joints. Anteroposterior (AP) or "front-to-back" view of the lumbar spine is taken in this examination, while the patient is standing. The picture typically portrays the position of the lumbar vertebrae and some of the surrounding bones of the spine. Depending on the doctor's concern regarding the symptoms, the doctor may want to examine the spine from other views.

Common Reasons for X-Ray Lumbar Spine AP View Standing

  • Lower Back Pain: Can be used to detect any bone abnormalities and alignment of the spine, which could be associated with chronic pain in the lower back.
  • Postural Assessment: Evaluates the position of the lumbar spine in the upright posture.
  • Suspected Degenerative Changes: Aids in the detection of bony changes due to ageing.
  • Spinal Deformity: Searches for any deformity or misaligned positions in the low back.
  • Vertebral Abnormalities: May help detect any abnormal deformities of the vertebrae, such as changes in their shape, height, and structure.
  • If there is a suspicion of Spondylolisthesis: There is some information regarding the alignment of the vertebrae, but other views would be necessary to determine if movement is present.
  • Follow-Up Imaging: May need to be followed up in order to view in known alignment or as a result of finding bone abnormalities.
  • Assessment After Injury: Ordered in some instances when the physician feels it is suitable (standing imaging).

Conditions Evaluated

Lumbar Vertebral Alignment

The AP view can be used to assess the position of the vertebrae of the lumbar spine and can also show any alignment issues or asymmetry.

Degenerative Changes

Structural changes and bony changes that can be seen on radiographical examination may suggest progression due to spinal ageing and can indicate the presence of osteophytes, sclerosis, and other changes.

Spinal Curvature and Deformity

The standing image can be helpful in evaluating abnormal curves and/or changes in curves in the lumbar spine. If a thorough assessment of the curvature of the spine is indicated, further imaging might be required.

Vertebral Compression and Deformities

The examination may reveal changes in the shape and/or height of the vertebrae; these may require further review depending on clinical presentation.

Spondylolisthesis and Alignment Changes

Vertebral positioning evaluation can be a part of the AP view. Sometimes a special lateral or back-to-back view may be required to adequately evaluate movement or slips of the vertebra.

Other Bony Abnormalities

The exam can identify some of the bone abnormalities and deformities that are visible and must be taken into account along with the clinical history and/or extra testing.

Why Choose Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy?

Book Your X-Ray Lumbar Spine AP View Standing

If your doctor has recommended an X-ray of your lumbar spine, AP View, lying on your back, standing, at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, an appointment can be made. This study gives insight into the alignment and bony makeup of the lower spine as seen from a standing position.

Test information: Fasting NOT needed

Reporting: Within 24 hours*

  • Fasting is usually not required for an X-ray of the lumbar spine.
  • Bring your doctor's prescription and any previous spine X-rays, CT scans, MRI reports, or relevant medical records.
  • Remove metal objects, belts, and clothing accessories around the lower back and waist as instructed by the radiology staff.
  • Inform the radiology staff if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.
  • Tell the staff if you have severe back pain, a recent spinal injury, dizziness, or difficulty standing upright.
  • Follow the positioning instructions provided by the radiology staff and stand as steadily as possible during the examination.
  • If standing causes severe pain or you suspect a spinal fracture after an injury, inform the staff before the examination and do not force yourself to stand.
