18F-DOPA & 18F-FDG Brain PET Scan at Molecular Diagnostic

30000

18F-DOPA + 18F-FDG Brain PET-CT is an advanced molecular imaging technique that evaluates:

  • Dopaminergic (18F-DOPA) activity.
  • Glucose metabolism (using 18F-FDG)

This two-tracer technique provides a clear image of the functioning and the structure of the brain that is highly beneficial to diagnosing and treating complicated neurological issues.

What is 18F-DOPA + 18F-FDG Brain PET-CT?

This scan mixes:

  • PET (Positron Emission Tomography) - Functional imaging.
  • CT (Computed Tomography)- Structural imaging.

The tracers show:

  • Regions of inappropriate metabolism.
  • Dopaminergic alterations.
  • Activity of a tumour and recurrence.

This assists doctors in diagnosing the problem very early and locating it accurately.

Common Uses of Dual-Tracer Brain PET-CT

  • Diagnosis and staging of brain tumours.
  • Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders.
  • Neurodegenerative conditions, such as dementia.
  • Observing treatment process efficacy.
  • Determining whether a tumour has recurred.
  • Mapping the brain to map therapy.

Who Should Consider This Scan?

You may require this scan because:

  • Suspected of a brain or neurological disorder.
  • Should know the extent of a tumour or the relapse.
  • Should plan or follow up treatment.
  • Report of neuro-inexplicable effects.
  • Referred to superior imaging.

What to Expect During the Scan

Preparation

  • You might have to go without food for a period of 4-6 hours.
  • The pre-imaging process involves the tracers.

Procedure

  • Painless and non-invasive test.
  • The total time, including post-injection waiting, is approximately 1 -2 hours.

Safety

  • It is done in compliance with nuclear medicine safety regulations.
  • It involves low-dose radiotracers, which are highly controlled.

Results

  • You will receive in-depth electronic reports.
  • They will be provided with fast assistance to assist doctors in making decisions.

Test information: Fasting: 4 hours on both days

Reporting: Within 2 hours*

  • This is a 2-day procedure, and as of now, F-DOPA is available on Thursdays only, whereas 18F-FDG PET-CT can be done every day except Sunday or national holidays.
  • Four hours of fasting is required on both days.
  • Certain interfering drugs may need to be stopped. Please speak with your treating physician for consultation on the same.
  • Please carry all medical documents, including doctor referrals, previous CT reports, MRI reports, etc.
  • Please carry a Serum creatinine blood report. If not done previously, with additional applicable charges, it can be done at the centre. You need not wait extra for the results as both tests go parallelly.
  • Always try to reach 15 minutes before appointment time as the radiopharmaceuticals used for this test has a short half-life, and any delay may cause decay of the tracer, and you may be rescheduled for another day.
  • Please carry identification proof such as an Aadhar card, pan card etc.
