Whole Body PSMA PET-CT Scan at Molecular Diagnostic

24000

Whole Body PSMA PET CT Scan is an advanced nuclear medicine examination test that is mostly applied in the assessment of problems associated with the prostate, as well as in the identification of abnormal cellular activities within the body. This scan is based on Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computed Tomography (CT) to enable the retrieval of metabolic data and images of the detailed anatomy. The PSMA (Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen) tracer can be used to highlight regions of high activity of the receptor, and allows a comprehensive image of the whole body of the patient. This scan is done in Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy with state-of-the-art PET-CT scans in order to achieve an accurate diagnostic assessment as recommended by the referring physician.

Purpose of the Scan

The scan can be taken in case of detailed analysis of the abnormalities related to the abnormalities or possible metastatic lesions. It is commonly used for:

  •   Prostate tumor and metastasis detection.
  •  Detection of increased PSMA receptor malignancy.
  • Assessment of the disease transmission to bones, lymph nodes, and other organs.
  • Clarification of findings from prior imaging studies
  • Follow-up support for prostate cancer patients.

The test gives important metabolic and anatomical data that can be used in the correct diagnosis.

Diagnostic Advantages

The Whole Body PSMA PET CT Scan offers several benefits for clinicians and patients:

  • Sensitive detection of prostate-related abnormalities
  • Comprehensive evaluation of metastatic spread
  • Clear visualization of PSMA receptor expression
  • Accurate correlation between metabolic activity and anatomy
  • Supports better diagnostic interpretation in complex cases

This scan is especially valuable in assessing the extent and distribution of prostate-related disease.

Safety and Patient Experience

Minimal radiotracer is used to take the scan under protective safety measures. It is not a surgical operation and is usually well-tolerated. The patient is overseen by trained personnel to make sure that he/she is comfortable and comply with the safety measures.

Report and Result Timeline

  • Scan reports are usually available within 24–48 hours
  • Reports include detailed imaging observations and findings
  • Digital reports may be provided for patient convenience
  • Results are intended for review by the referring physician

Test information: Fasting: 2 hours

Reporting: Within 2 hours*

  • Fasting for 2 hours is needed.
  • Patients should be well-hydrated for 02 hours before the study and take water during the uptake phase.
  • Please carry all medical documents, including doctor referral, Serum PSA report, previous PSMA PET-CT reports with CD for comparison, report of any CT, MRI etc.
  • Please carry a Serum creatinine blood report. If not done previously, with additional applicable charges, it can be done at the centre. You need not wait extra for the results as both tests go parallelly.
  • If you are allergic to contrast media, please inform staff before the test.
  • Always try to reach 15 minutes before appointment time as the radiopharmaceutical (tracer) used for PSMA PET-CT has a short half-life, and any delay may cause tracer decay, and you may be rescheduled for another day.
  • Please carry identification proof such as an Aadhar card, pan card etc.
