About 18F-DOPA Whole-Body PET-CT
The 18F-DOPA Whole-Body PET-CT is an innovative tool of molecular imaging used to monitor dopaminergic functionality, as well as tumor metabolism, of the whole body. At Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, we concentrate on whole body PET-CT scan using 18F- Dopa, which provides detailed information on the diagnosis, staging, treatment planning, and therapy monitoring.
Our experts provide precise and helpful results regardless of the type of neuroendocrine tumours, metastatic disease, or other systemic conditions, with the help of sophisticated PET, listing the available technologies, PET, and CT.
What is an 18F-DOPA Whole-Body PET-CT?
It is a scan that integrates both Positron Emission tomography (PET) and Computed tomography (CT) scans, to give both structural and functional images of the whole body.
The areas where the 18F 2 -DOPA tracer displays increased metabolism are associated with the early detection of tumors, accurate localization, and monitoring of treatment.
Common Uses of 18F-DOPA Whole-Body PET-CT
Detection and staging of neuroendocrine tumors
Assessment of metastatic disease
Monitoring response to cancer therapy
Early detection of tumor recurrence
Functional evaluation of dopaminergic and neuroendocrine activity
Whole-body oncology imaging for diagnosis and treatment planning

Test information: Fasting: 4 hours
Reporting: Within 2 hours*
Fasting for 4 hours is needed.
For neuroendocrine tumours, all medication can be continued. However, in case of congenital hyperinsulinemia, diazoxide, octreotide and glucagon should be stopped 48 hours before injecting 18F-DOPA.
Please carry all medical documents, including doctor referrals, previous CT reports, MRI reports, etc.
Please carry a Serum creatinine blood report. If not done previously, with additional applicable charges, it can be done at the centre. You need not wait extra for the results as both tests go parallelly.
Always try to reach 15 minutes before the appointment as the radiopharmaceutical (tracer) used for 18F-DOPA PET-CT has a short half-life, and any delay may cause tracer decay, and you may be rescheduled for another day.
Please carry identification proof such as an Aadhar card, pan card etc.
After registration and payment, the patient's medical history is taken, including checking referral, treatment and investigation records, history of last meal and any allergy to contrast media, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, etc., depending on the clinical requirement.
The patient is given clothes to change if felt necessary.
Blood sugar is checked, and height & weight is recorded. An intravenous cannula is fixed for the administration of tracer and contrast media.
The patient is injected with radioactive material (18F-DOPA) and advised to relax for a duration to allow the tracer to be distributed within the body with an adequate target to background ratio.
The patient is asked to pass urine before scanning. Scanning may take 15-30 min, depending upon the nature of the disease.
Recorded images are verified and if delayed images are neede, the patient is advised accordingly.
Once these sequences are over, the patient is free to have a meal and go home. The procedure takes approximately 2–4 hours, depending on many variables. In the case of delayed images, this time may increase.
