Book your CECT Enterography at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy that is an NABL- and NABH-accredited diagnostic centre that offers advanced Radiology and diagnostic imaging services. The CT enterography is a specialized type of imaging examination that is designed to look in detail at the small intestine and other abdominal structures if a contrast dye has been injected.
About CECT Enterography
CECT Enterography refers to a specialized type of CT in which oral contrast is used along with intravenous contrast to obtain detailed images of the small bowel. Assesses the bowel lumen, superficial tissues, blood vessels, and other structures in the abdomen. Useful to examine in cases of inflammatory bowel disease, non-specific abdominal symptoms, small bowel obstruction, bleeding, and suspected small intestinal disease.
What is CECT Enterography?
Contrast- Enhanced Computed Tomography (CECT) is a specialized type of computed tomography (CT) scan that uses X-rays and contrast material to highlight areas within the body. Enterography is imaging of the small intestine following proper distention with oral contrast. The X-rays were taken after the patient took an oral contrast agent during the examination. Intravenous contrast can also be given to enhance the contrast of the bowel wall, blood vessels, and surrounding tissue. This scan allows the doctor to get detailed cross-sectional scans of the small intestine that can help identify abnormalities that are not shown with conventional imaging studies.
Common Reasons for CECT Enterography
Persistent or unexplained abdominal pain
Suspected Crohn’s disease
Evaluation of small-bowel inflammation
Unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding
Suspected small-bowel obstruction
Chronic diarrhoea or other unexplained bowel symptoms
Suspected intestinal thickening
Evaluation of fistulas or abscesses
Assessment of suspected small-bowel tumors
Follow-up of known intestinal disease
Evaluation of complications related to inflammatory bowel disease
Conditions Evaluated
Crohn’s Disease
CECT Enterography can help assess bowel wall thickening, inflammation, narrowing, fistulas, abscesses, and other complications associated with Crohn’s disease.
Small-Bowel Inflammation
The examination can identify changes in the intestinal wall and surrounding tissues associated with inflammatory conditions.
Bowel Wall Thickening
CT Enterography provides detailed images of the bowel wall and may help evaluate abnormal thickening, enhancement, or changes in the surrounding tissues.
Intestinal Obstruction
The scan can help identify areas of narrowing or obstruction and assess associated bowel dilatation and surrounding changes.
Fistulas and Abscesses
CECT Enterography can help detect abnormal connections between bowel loops or other structures and identify collections associated with inflammatory or infective disease.
Small-Bowel Tumors
The examination may help detect and characterize selected masses or tumors involving the small intestine and assess their relationship with nearby structures.
Gastrointestinal Bleeding
CT Enterography may be recommended in selected cases of unexplained gastrointestinal bleeding to help identify possible sources or associated bowel abnormalities.
Postoperative and Treatment-Related Changes
The scan can help evaluate selected postoperative changes and monitor known intestinal conditions when clinically indicated.
Benefits of CECT ENTEROGRAPHY
Detailed imaging of the small intestine
Improved visualization of the bowel wall
Helps assess intestinal inflammation and narrowing
Useful for evaluating Crohn’s disease and its complications
Can identify selected fistulas, abscesses, and masses
Provides information about surrounding abdominal structures
Supports diagnosis and treatment planning
Useful for follow-up of selected intestinal conditions

Inform the healthcare professional if you are pregnant or planning pregnancy.
Inform the medical team about all current medicines and supplements. Do not stop prescribed medicines unless specifically advised.
Bring previous CT, MRI, endoscopy, colonoscopy, ultrasound reports, prescriptions, and other relevant medical records if available.
Inform the CT team about any previous abdominal surgery, intestinal disease, obstruction, inflammatory bowel disease, or other relevant abdominal condition.
Wear comfortable clothing and remove metallic objects as instructed before the examination.
Follow the instructions regarding drinking the oral contrast, positioning, and remaining still during image acquisition.
Inform the CT team if you develop significant nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, itching, breathing difficulty, dizziness, or any unusual symptoms during the examination.

The patient’s symptoms, medical history, previous investigations, treatment history, and clinical indication are reviewed before the examination.
The CT team confirms relevant contrast-safety information, including previous reactions to iodinated contrast and kidney-related medical history.
The patient is given an appropriate oral contrast solution according to the enterography protocol.
The oral contrast is consumed over a specified period to adequately distend the small intestine and improve visualization of the bowel lumen and wall.
The patient is positioned appropriately on the CT table for imaging of the abdomen and pelvis.
An intravenous line is established for administration of iodinated contrast material when required.
Intravenous contrast is administered to improve visualization of the bowel wall, blood vessels, and surrounding abdominal tissues.
CT images are acquired using an enterography protocol designed to provide detailed cross-sectional images of the small intestine.
The examination evaluates the bowel lumen and wall, mesentery, surrounding soft tissues, blood vessels, and other relevant abdominal structures.
CECT Enterography may help assess bowel-wall thickening and enhancement, inflammation, narrowing, obstruction, fistulas, abscesses, selected masses, and other complications of small-bowel disease.
Additional image reconstructions may be prepared in different planes when required for detailed assessment.
The patient should remain still during image acquisition to reduce motion-related image artefacts.
