Get your CECT Chest + HRCT Chest at Molecular Diagnostics & Therapy, a NABL & NABH-approved diagnostic centre for advanced radiology and diagnostic imaging. This CT scan will provide detailed information about the anatomy of the lungs and airways, and the mediastinum, blood vessels, pleura (the membranes around the lungs), and the tissue that surrounds them. Abnormalities of the chest are assessed by contrast-enhanced CT, and any changes in the air spaces and interstitium can be detected by HRCT.
Combined computed tomography (computed X-ray) of the chest that uses a contrast material – called CECT + HRCT Chest. It is recommended in situations when a physician needs precise enough details of the structures of the chest as well as the lung parenchyma. The CECT better illustrates these structures such as the mediastinum, lymph nodes, blood vessels,s and selected masses/lesions. HRCT provides detailed lung tissue images and can help determine changes in the lungs and help assess if there are infections/inflammation or presence/absence of fibrosis. The specific scan protocol will differ based on the patient's clinical problem, patient history, and what it is you are trying to answer.
CECT is short for ‘contrast-enhanced computed tomography ', and HRCT is short for ‘high-resolution computed tomography '. During CECT, the iodine-based contrast dye is injected into a vein and helps to make certain areas of the body, blood vessels, and abnormalities visible. HRCT is attained by acquiring special CT images and then reconstructing them to get a detailed image of lung parenchyma. The combined examination uses CT technology to produce detailed cross-sectional images of the chest. It may prove useful when physicians wish to observe the degree of lung disease and whether or not there are any abnormalities of the other organs in the thorax.
CT imaging can be helpful in determining if the lungs have consolidation or ground-glass opacities, or if there are nodules and changes seen with some infections and inflammatory conditions of the lungs. Laboratory tests are also undertaken and results analysed with their clinical findings.
HRCT produces detailed visualization of the lung tissue and can aid assessment of patterns in interstitial lung diseases. It may exhibit reticulation, the development of honeycombing, changes of ground-glass opacity, etc., that are relevant for assessment of pulmonary fibrosis.
The examination assists in recognizing and elucidating lung masses, nodules, and changes. Selected lesions and neighbouring structures may be better revealed in the contrast-enhanced images.
CECT is helpful to evaluate the heart, large blood vessels, lymph nodes,s and central airways. It may be helpful to diagnose the character of mediastinal masses, enlarged lymph nodes, and other abnormalities in the structures.
The scan can be used for finding thickening of the lining around the lungs, fluid around the lungs (pleural effusion), and more. The identification of such findings, in terms of their pattern and features, can help with further clinical investigation.
HRCT can provide more in-depth information about the airways and evaluate airway wall thickening, mucus plugging, as well as some small airway abnormalities and bronchiectasis.
The exam can also determine the presence of emphysema and other long-term changes in lung tissue. Results on the extent and distribution can be used to assist with the clinical assessment and treatment planning.
Contrast imaging can be utilized to evaluate selected abnormalities of the chest wall and other thoracic abnormalities and intrathoracic lymph nodes.
A NABL & NABH Accredited Diagnostic Centre for advanced Radiology, Nuclear Medicine & Pathology services, Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, is a single place that offers all the above services. We are based on three principles of our imaging services: using scan protocols that are appropriate, modern imaging technology, and patient safety and reliable reporting of what we see. The patient is advised on how the preparation should be made and how intravenous contrast is administered.
To arrange for your chest scan using CECT + HRCT scan, you can call Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy and get instructions on how to prepare for the scan. Bring any medical information, old chest X-rays, any previous computed tomography scans if available, and prescriptions. Before the scan,n inform the imaging team about any previous reactions to CT contrast, kidney problems, medications, or pregnancy.
Test information: Fasting for 4–6 hours is generally required.
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
