CT BRAIN ANGIOGRAPHY

₹8000

If you're looking to get a CT Brain Angiography at the most advanced NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre, then you need to reach out to Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy. The special contrast CT scan used to look at the blood vessel, or vessels, that supply blood to the brain, is called CT Brain Angiography. It helps the physician diagnose various blood vessel conditions or abnormalities, such as narrowing of blood vessels, malformations, blood clots, and many other blood vessel abnormalities in and around the brain.

About CT Brain Angiography

A computed tomography (CT) brain angiography is a non-invasive imaging measure that can be used to examine the arteries in and around the brain. It's a form of computed tomography with an intravenous contrast agent to provide detailed images of blood vessels. If a healthcare provider thinks that a patient may have suffered from a cerebral aneurysm, constricted blood vessels, an abnormal blood vessel link, or any other disorder of the blood vessels in the brain, he or she might suggest an examination. It can also be helpful when evaluating any relevant existing cases of stroke and in designing treatment plans.

What is CT Brain Angiography?

Imaging techniques to evaluate blood vessel function are considered a form of angiography. Here, an iodine-based material is injected into a vein, then images are taken after a period of time to highlight the brain's arteries, known as CT brain angiography. The radiologist can examine the images to evaluate the direction, shape, and size of the blood vessels and some blood vessel abnormalities. A non-contrast CT head can show some blood vessel-related findings, but CT angiography uses intravenous contrast to provide more detailed images of the cerebral arteries.

Common Reasons for CT Brain Angiography

  • Brain aneurysm: Aids in diagnosing and determining if an artery is bulging.
  • Evaluation: May help in certain kinds of stroke evaluations to detect the narrowing or blockage of the arteries.
  • Arterial narrowing: determines whether or not there is a possible stenosis affecting blood flow to the brain.
  • Vascular malformations: Helps to identify particular vascular malformations of the brain.
  • Suspected arterial blockage: If there is arterial blockage in the arteries, it will provide more detailed images of the cerebral arteries.
  • Pulsatile tinnitus: For selected cases, may be recommended if tinnitus is thought to be due to an artery.
  • Pre-treatment planning: assist specialists in preparing for some of the surgical and endovascular procedures, examining the anatomy of the vessels.
  • Monitoring of known vascular abnormalities: For monitoring certain vascular lesions/aneurysms as recommended by a vascular specialist.

Conditions Evaluated

Cerebral Aneurysms

CT Brain Angiography can help identify cerebral aneurysms, which are abnormal bulges in blood vessels, and provide information about their size, shape, and location.

Arterial Stenosis

The exam might be able to demonstrate constriction of cerebral arteries that can restrict blood flow. The location and severity of arterial narrowing can help doctors determine whether further assessment or treatment is needed.

Cerebral Arterial Occlusion

The computed tomography (CT) angiogram of the brain may be able to identify blockage in large arteries that carry blood to the brain. The information could be beneficial in making the decisions and evaluations that are necessary in some stroke evaluations and treatment regimens.

Arteriovenous Malformations

The scan may aid in identifying some abnormalities in the blood vessels where arteries and veins connect. Further imaging may be needed in order to fully investigate the nature of these abnormalities.

Intracranial Vascular Abnormalities

Examination can provide fine visualisation of the cerebral arteries and the opportunity to identify some of the abnormalities of vessel structure, branching or course.

Vascular Causes of Subarachnoid Haemorrhage

CT Brain Angiography can be obtained if any suspicion exists or there is current knowledge of bleeding around the brain to capture the presence of any underlying aneurysm or other vascular abnormalities. The most suitable imaging sequence is based on the clinical context.

Pre-Procedural Vascular Mapping

Comprehensive imaging of the cerebral vessels may provide information about the vascular anatomy prior to pertinent endovascular and neurosurgical interventions.

Follow-Up of Known Aneurysms

For patients who already have a documented aneurysm and whose aneurysm is to be followed up, or for patients with identified vascular abnormalities that are treated, CT Brain Angiography may be indicated on the advice of the treating specialist.

Why Choose Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy?

Advanced Radiology, Nuclear Medicine & Pathology services under the same roof at a single place with Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is an NABL & NABH Accredited Diagnostic centre. Modern diagnostic tools and procedures enable us to use our cutting-edge technology to power our imaging services to best meet our patients' busy needs. Using our imaging technology, we utilize today's state-of-the-art diagnostic exams and procedures, and customized imaging techniques and protocols for the needs of our clients. We make every effort to provide reporting of results and to provide outstanding diagnostic imaging which would assist in appropriate clinical management.

Conclusion

Brain Angiography is an important imaging test that is done to get a good look at the blood vessels that feed the brain. It helps the doctor examine any noted narrowing of the artery and blockage in the artery, suspected aneurysm, or anything else unusual that occurs in the blood vessels of the brain. Advanced CT imaging at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is used as a tool for a detailed vascular assessment and the decision-making process for appropriate treatment planning by the recommending doctor.

Test information: Fasting for 4–6 hours is generally required.

Reporting: Within 24 hours*

  • Fasting for 4–6 hours is generally required before the examination. Follow the specific instructions provided by the centre.
  • Inform the medical team if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Inform the doctor if you have kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid disease, or any other significant medical condition.
  • Tell the medical team if you have previously experienced an allergic reaction to iodine-based CT contrast material or had a reaction during an earlier contrast-enhanced scan.
  • Kidney function tests may be required before contrast administration, depending on your medical history and the centre’s protocol.
  • Inform the staff about all medicines you take, particularly medicines for diabetes and blood-thinning medicines. Do not stop prescribed medicines unless your doctor advises you to do so.
  • Bring the doctor’s prescription, previous CT or MRI scans, relevant blood test results, and other medical records.
  • Inform the medical team about any history of stroke, aneurysm, blood vessel disease, or previous brain or vascular surgery.
  • Follow the centre’s instructions regarding water intake before the scan.
  • Remove jewellery, hairpins, glasses, and other metallic objects around the head and neck before the examination, as instructed.
  • Inform the staff if you have difficulty lying flat or remaining still during the scan.
  • If the examination is required for sudden symptoms such as facial drooping, weakness on one side, difficulty speaking, or a sudden severe headache, seek emergency medical care immediately rather than delaying assessment for preparation.
