Book ELR Holter monitoring at a diagnostic centre that is NABL- and NABH-approved for Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy. ELR Holter monitoring or also called External Loop Recorder monitoring is a test of cardiac monitoring to document the electrical activity of the heart over a longer period of time. It is particularly useful for detecting irregular heartbeat sensations that may happen periodically and might not show up on a typical examination of the heart rhythm.
What is ELR Holter?
ELR Holter, a portable cardiac monitoring device, is designed to record the cardiac electrical activity continuously or periodically during the cardiac monitoring period. A recording device is attached to small electrodes placed on the patient's chest. Records information on the ECG for storage, to help doctors interpret periods of abnormal rhythm. Patients may also be required to keep a log of symptoms, like dizziness, palpitations or fainting, throughout the monitoring period that depends on the device and monitoring which occurs.
Common Reasons for ELR Holter
Evaluation of irregular heartbeat
Investigation of frequent or occasional palpitations
Assessment of unexplained dizziness
Evaluation of unexplained fainting episodes
Investigation of suspected arrhythmias
Monitoring of patients with known heart rhythm abnormalities
Assessment of symptoms that are not detected during a routine ECG
Follow-up of certain cardiac conditions
Conditions Evaluated
Cardiac Arrhythmias
ELR monitoring can detect abnormal heart rhythms such as periods of very rapid, slow, or irregular pacing, which might occur during treatment.
Atrial Fibrillation
The test can be used to identify periods of cardiac arrhythmia (atrial fibrillation) during which the upper chambers of the heart have an irregular heart rhythm.
Bradycardia
ELR monitoring can assist in recognizing periods of reduced heart rate than usual (bradycardia), which may be accompanied by dizziness, weakness, or falling down.
Tachycardia
The test can assess episodes of an abnormally rapid heart rate and give information about how often and how long these episodes occur.
Intermittent Heart Rhythm Abnormalities
Other disorders of the heart rhythm are only occasional. If an ECM cannot detect these episodes, they may be recorded via extended monitoring.
Who Should Consider This Test?
Your doctor may recommend ELR Holter monitoring if you have:
Repeated episodes of palpitations
Occasional irregular heartbeat
Unexplained dizziness or lightheadedness
Episodes of fainting or near-fainting
Suspected intermittent arrhythmias
Symptoms that are not detected during a routine ECG
A known heart rhythm condition requiring monitoring
Helps correlate symptoms with changes in heart rhythm
Provides useful information for cardiac evaluation
Supports diagnosis and treatment planning

Book Your ELR Holter
Opt for Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy when it comes to ELR Holter Monitoring, for in-depth cardiac assessment and detailed reports. Our team will monitor patients' condition to help physicians determine irregular heart rhythms and determine the appropriate care based on the results.
Test information: Fasting: Not required. Follow the instructions provided by the cardiac monitoring team.
Reporting: As per the monitoring duration and the centre's reporting schedule.
Fasting is not required before the test.
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the chest area.
Inform the doctor about your medical history, current medications, and any existing heart conditions.
Do not apply lotions, creams, or oils to the chest before electrode placement, as they may affect electrode contact.
Keep the monitoring device and electrodes dry. Avoid bathing or swimming unless the monitoring team confirms that the device is waterproof.
Continue your usual daily activities unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Maintain a diary of symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness, chest discomfort, or fainting, and note the time they occur.
Press the event button on the recorder when symptoms occur, if your device has this feature.
Do not remove or adjust the electrodes or recording device without guidance from the monitoring team.
Follow the instructions provided by the cardiac monitoring team regarding device use and return.
The cardiac monitoring staff explains the procedure and attaches small adhesive electrodes to the patient's chest.
The electrodes are connected to a portable External Loop Recorder (ELR) device.
The device records and stores the heart's electrical activity over the prescribed monitoring period.
Depending on the device, ECG recordings may be continuous or captured in loops when an event is detected, or the patient activates the event button.
The patient can generally continue normal daily activities while wearing the device, following the team's instructions.
The patient is advised to maintain a symptom diary and record the time of any palpitations, dizziness, or other unusual symptoms.
After the monitoring period is complete, the device is returned to the diagnostic centre.
The recorded ECG data is analysed by qualified professionals to identify possible rhythm abnormalities and correlate them with reported symptoms.
The findings are reviewed, and the report is prepared according to the monitoring duration and the centre's reporting schedule.
