Find your NCCT Calcaneum at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, whose services are an advanced level of Radiology and diagnostic imaging at a NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre. This noncontrast computed tomography (CT) scan provides detailed information about the calcaneus/heel bone structure, helping the doctor determine whether a calcaneus fracture, calcaneal positioning, joint changes, or other bone problems exist in the heel.
The specialized type of imaging exam to investigate the bone of the heel, which is the large bone of the hindfoot, is referred to as NCCT Calcaneum. This bone plays a crucial role in weight-bearing, walking, and conveying weight forces through the foot. A scan produces in-depth cross-sectional views of the bone and all the adjacent joints in the heel. After an injury, it can be recommended when it is suspected that there is a fracture in the back of the foot (calcaneus), or when an X-ray might not technically be able to be taken to examine bone structure or the extent of an abnormal finding.
The non-Contrast CT is also referred to as NCCT. The test is a non-invasive image generated by X-ray and a computer that makes detailed images of the rear bone of the heel (the calcaneus). Based on the imaging protocol, the CT can provide axial images and multiplanar reconstruction images (coronal, sagittal). These points are useful for doctors to evaluate fracture lines, bone fragments, alignment, and nearby joints (especially the subtalar) involved in the fracture. NCCT of the calcaneum can be helpful in assessing complex heel fractures as well as for providing anatomical information for treatment planning.
NCCT is able to display detailed images of fractures in the heel bone. It may be useful in identification of fracture lines, bone fragments, displacement, and pattern of injury.
The examination may also reveal fractures that do not penetrate the subtalar joint. Images show details to characterise what and where these injuries occur.
CT can identify the movement, rotation, and alignment of the bone fragments. This will assist specialists in figuring out a skilled therapy strategy.
To help decide on selected changes after an injury to the bone of the heel (calcaneus), including persistent deformity, changes in alignment of the bones, and potential complications.
On NCCT, one expects to see some selected bone remodeling of the calcaneus, or cyst-like bone remodeling or remodeling of other structures. Other imaging or clinical investigations might be needed to provide further characterization.
A detailed multiplanar picture can help the surgeon determine what the likely pattern of the fracture will be, whether the joint will be involved, and CT findings can help guide surgical planning by demonstrating fracture configuration, displacement, and joint involvement.
Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy is a science centre offering cutting-edge Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Pathology consulting services, recognised by NABL & NABH. Our imaging services focus on the selection of scan protocols, high-quality acquisition of images, patient comfort, and reliable reporting. Prior to the examination, patients are informed about what will be done during the examination and any precautions to take.
If you are advised to have an NCCT Calcaneum, please contact Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy and make an appointment for the NCCT Calcaneum. Bring your prescription, any past X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs,s and other pertinent medical records if they exist. Inform the radiography team whether someone is pregnant or, in the opinion of the individual, is pregnant before receiving imaging services.
