NCCT FACE & NECK (AXIAL + CORONAL)

₹3500

Get an NCCT Face & Neck scan at a diagnostic centre offering advanced Radiology and diagnostic imaging services, and is an NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre – Molecular Diagnostics & Therapy. The specific non-contrast computed tomography (CT) scan allows for the detailed imaging of the jaw, surrounding soft tissue and neck anatomy, nasal structures, and facial bone structure in axial and coronal planes. It helps Doctors to evaluate bone changes, abnormalities, and injuries in the face and to assess specific conditions affecting the face and neck.

About NCCT Face & Neck (Axial + Coronal)

An NCCT examination of the face and neck is a computed tomography (CT) study of the facial skeleton and neck that does not involve intravenous (into the veins) contrast agent. The scan provides comprehensive cross-sectional images that can help measure bone structure and parts of the body, and selected soft tissue abnormalities. There is alternate coverage of facial and neck anatomy provided by axial and coronal reconstructions. It may be suggested following a facial injury or when a bone irregularity is suspected or when anatomical information is needed for correct clinical evaluation/treatment planning.

What is NCCT Face & Neck (Axial + Coronal)?

Non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT). It is a technique that produces detailed images of the face and neck, using a combination of X-rays and computer processing without using intravenous (IV) contrast. There are two basic planes of imaging for the examination:

  • Axial: Cross-sectional images that help assess facial structures and the neck from different levels.
  • Coronal: Front-facing images that help evaluate the facial bones, nasal cavity, jaw, and other structures in relation to one another.

Common Reasons for NCCT Face & Neck (Axial + Coronal)

  • Facial Trauma: Evaluation of suspected facial bone injuries secondary to an accident, fall, or direct impact.
  • Suspected Facial Fractures: Evaluation of facial fractures that involve the nose, cheekbones, jaw, aw or other facial bones.
  • Examination of Mandible and Maxilla – Examination of structural abnormalities of facial bones of the upper and lower jaws (mandible and maxilla).
  • Nasal & Sinus Related Bone Abnormalities - Imaging of selected abnormalities of nasal structures and the surrounding facial bones.
  • Neck Structural Abnormalities: Assessment of selected bony abnormalities, calcifications,o r other abnormality(s) seen on a non-contrast CT scan of the neck
  • Foreign body assessment (radiographic assessment of the facial and/or neck spaces) is the questioning of suspected foreign bodies in the facial and/or neck spaces following an injury to the face or neck, which are radiopaque.
  • Follow-Up with old injuries: Evaluation of fracture alignment or structural abnormalities that are still present in a body structure after the doctor has suggested it be evaluated.

Conditions Evaluated

Facial Bone Fractures

An NCCT scan can provide detailed information about the bones of the face as well and can be useful if nasal bones, Maxilla, Mandible, cheekbones, etc. of the face are involved in the fracture. It is capable of revealing fracture lines, displacement, and associated bone disease.

Maxillary and Mandibular Abnormalities

It can be utilized to inspect bones of the upper and lower jaws, and one of its uses might be to examine bones for fractures, deformities,s and structural changes. Results can provide input for further evaluation and treatment planning.

Nasal and Midface Injuries

When evaluating injuries to the midface and nasal bones, CT scans may be helpful. May exhibit fractures of adjacent facial structures and/or other types of abnormalities.

Facial Bone Deformities

With NCCT, information regarding deformities or irregularities of the bones in the face can be obtained. It can be of benefit in certain congenital and/or post-traumatic or postoperative states.

Neck Bony Abnormalities

The scan can assist in determining some of the selected changes in structure that involve the cervical region and other areas of the body that can be seen. Evaluation will depend on the amount of information obtained by the scan of the patient and the specific clinical indications.

Calcifications and Other Structural Changes

Non-contrast computed tomography (CT) can detect some other abnormalities of the tissue overlying the area being scanned and a large number of calcifications. Their importance is dependent on their location, appearance, and the patient's clinical history.

Foreign Bodies and Traumatic Changes

With a CT evaluation, any foreign body found that is radiopaque and has associated structural injury may be detected. The material, size, and location of the foreign body are important to detect.

Anatomical Assessment for Treatment Planning

Axial and coronal images provide information regarding the facial skeleton and some of the structures of the neck. This information may assist your doctor in developing more tests or treatment plans.

Book Your NCCT Face & Neck (Axial + Coronal)

If your doctor has suggested an NCCT Face & Neck scan, please contact Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy for additional information regarding appointments. Bring in your prescription, previous CT scans and X-rays (if available), and any pertinent medical records. Let the imaging center know ahead of time if you are possibly pregnant when scheduling the exam.

Test information: Usually, no fasting is required.

Reporting: Within 24 hours*

  • Usually, no fasting is required before an NCCT Face & Neck scan.
  • Bring your prescription, previous X-rays, CT scans, and relevant medical records.
  • Inform the radiology team if you are pregnant or suspect that you may be pregnant, as CT uses X-rays.
  • Remove spectacles, earrings, nose jewellery, dentures if removable, and other metal objects around the head and neck.
  • Inform the staff about any recent facial or neck injury, previous surgery, or suspected foreign body.
  • Follow the radiology team's instructions and keep your head still during image acquisition.
  • Intravenous contrast is not routinely used for this examination.
