See advanced CT & Radiology services and detailed evaluation status of the left elbow joint and adjacent bones at Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, which is an NABL & NABH-accredited diagnostic centre, for NCCT of the left elbow examination. CT scan of the left elbow, specially designed to produce excellent images of the distal humerus, joint surfaces, and adjacent bone structures. It is very useful for assessing fractures, traumatic injuries, disorders of joint alignment, complex bone injuries, and degenerative changes in the left elbow.
The scan can also be used to assess bone lesions if needed or to provide information regarding anatomy for treatment planning. Patients experience seamless Molecular Diagnostics and Therapy, with hands-on support from radiology experts, state-of-the-art imaging technology, safety measures, accurate reporting, and patient-centric care.
About NCCT Left Elbow
An advanced type of computed tomography (CT) used to help assess the structures of the left elbow's bone and joints. Captures comprehensive cross-sectional views of the distal humerus, proximal radius, and the elbow joint's dependent articular surfaces. The exam is very useful when following up on an injury or in some situations when standard X-rays are not adequate to obtain a clear picture of the bone following a fracture, or for a complicated joint condition.
What is NCCT Left Elbow?
A detailed cross-sectional image of the left elbow without intravenous contrast agents, which is achieved with X-ray-based CT technology, is referred to as NCCT Left Elbow. The scan is used to further assess fractures, alignment, joint congruity, degenerative changes, and other bone structure abnormalities. It can give information regarding complex fractures of bone and help doctors plan treatment.
Common Reasons for NCCT Left Elbow
Suspected Elbow Fracture: To identify fractures involving the distal humerus, proximal radius, or proximal ulna.
Trauma or Injury: To assess bone injuries following a fall, accident, sports injury, or direct impact to the left elbow.
Elbow Swelling: To investigate swelling following trauma when an underlying fracture or joint abnormality is suspected.
Restricted Elbow Movement: To evaluate limited movement when a bone cause is suspected, such as a previous fracture, bone overgrowth, or loose bodies causing difficulty bending or straightening the elbow.
Joint Alignment Assessment: To examine the position and alignment of the bones forming the elbow joint.
Complex Bone Injuries: To provide detailed images of fractures involving the joint surfaces or multiple bone fragments.
Degenerative Elbow Changes: To assess bone changes associated with osteoarthritis or other degenerative joint conditions.
Follow-Up After Injury or Surgery: To evaluate bone healing, joint alignment, or post-treatment changes when clinically indicated.
Conditions Evaluated
Elbow Fractures
The fractures of the distal humerus, radial head, olecranon, or any other area of the elbow joint can be visualized in detail by NCCT.
Joint Dislocation and Alignment Abnormalities
The exam helps determine the location of the bones that make up the elbow joint as well as if the bones are out of place or misaligned.
Complex Intra-Articular Fractures
CT's ability to give detailed imaging of fractures involving the joint surface can aid in determining the extent and complexity of the injury.
Degenerative Joint Changes
Changes of the elbow due to degeneration can be shown by NCCT, which also shows osteophytes, irregular surface swellings of the joints, and other bone alterations.
Bone Lesions
Certain focal bone lesions and abnormal bone growth may be identified, as well as other structural abnormalities that necessitate further evaluation, which may be helped by the scan.
Post-Traumatic Changes
A left elbow exam to look for bone abnormality may be performed after an accident, fall, or injury to the left elbow.
Joint Surface Abnormalities
NCCT is able to give the viewer detailed images of the articular surfaces and can help them identify irregularities or defects in the form of the bones of the elbow joint.

Test information: Usually, no fasting is required.
Reporting: Within 24 hours*
Usually, no fasting is required for an NCCT Left Elbow scan.
Inform the radiology team about any previous left elbow surgery, fracture, dislocation, injury, or treatment.
Inform the radiology team if you have metallic implants, plates, screws, fixation devices, or other medical hardware in or around the left elbow.
Inform the radiology team if you are pregnant, suspect pregnancy, or are planning a pregnancy, as CT uses ionising radiation.
Share details of your current medicines and any relevant medical conditions.
Bring previous CT scans, X-rays, MRI scans, or other relevant elbow reports, if available.
Remove jewellery, watches, bracelets, or other unnecessary metal objects from the left arm before the examination, as advised.
Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the left elbow.
Inform the radiology team if severe pain, swelling, or restricted movement makes it difficult to position your left arm.
Keep your left elbow and arm still during image acquisition to help obtain clear images.
Follow any additional instructions provided by the radiology team according to your clinical condition.

The radiology team reviews the patient's clinical history, symptoms, previous investigations, and reason for the NCCT Left Elbow examination.
The patient is positioned appropriately on the CT table, with the left elbow placed according to the imaging protocol.
Thin-section non-contrast CT images of the left elbow are acquired using X-rays.
The scan evaluates the distal humerus, proximal radius, proximal ulna, elbow joint surfaces, and surrounding bony structures.
The images are assessed for fractures, bone fragments, joint dislocation, alignment abnormalities, complex intra-articular injuries, degenerative bony changes, bone lesions, and other structural abnormalities.
Joint congruity and the extent of fractures involving the joint surfaces are evaluated when clinically indicated.
Multiplanar or three-dimensional reconstructions may be prepared when required for detailed assessment of complex fractures or treatment planning.
No intravenous contrast agent is used for a standard NCCT Left Elbow examination.
The patient should remain still during image acquisition to reduce motion-related image blurring.
Appropriate radiation-safety measures and a suitable CT protocol are followed to minimise unnecessary radiation exposure.
The acquired images are reviewed and interpreted by a qualified radiologist.
